It was a busy weekend on the hardwood with area teams in action across boys and girls basketball. From conference battles to non-league matchups, several local squads turned in strong performances, while others looked to regroup and build momentum heading into the new week. Here’s a look at the latest scores and highlights from around the area.

FRIDAY BOYS BASKETBALL

Varsity — Covington 68, Riverside 50

The Riverside Pirates dropped a road contest Friday night, falling to Covington 68–50.

Hayden Sanford led the Pirates with 14 points, while Brody Orsborne and Syler Clark each added 11 points in the loss.

SATURDAY GIRLS BASKETBALL

Graham 51, Benjamin Logan 30

The Ben Logan Lady Raiders traveled to Graham Saturday night to take on the Lady Falcons, splitting the JV and varsity matchups.

In the varsity game, Graham defeated Ben Logan 51–30. The Lady Raiders struggled offensively but stayed competitive on the defensive end, trailing just 21–15 at halftime against a strong Falcons offense. Graham pulled away in the third quarter after opening the half with four three-pointers. Molly Siefring and Kaylee Hays each scored 6 points for Ben Logan, while Joplin Schneider and Paislee Rodenberger finished with 5 points apiece. Schneider also pulled down 9 rebounds.

JV Benjamin Logan 31, Graham 29

The Ben Logan JV Lady Raiders picked up an exciting 31–29 win, using defensive intensity after an early deficit to secure the victory. Madison Shields finished with 7 points and 5 rebounds, while Bonnie Brunson added 6 points and 5 rebounds. Brielle Kline chipped in 5 points, and Jozie Taylor knocked down a clutch three-pointer late to give Ben Logan the lead. It was a strong all-around team effort for the Raiders.

After a long stretch of road games, the Lady Raiders return home Monday to host the Greenon Knights, beginning with the JV game at 6 p.m.

WL-S 57, Southeastern 39

West Liberty-Salem stayed hot Saturday with a 57–39 win over Southeastern, improving to 11–1 overall and 9–1 in conference play.

Mechanicsburg 69, Delaware Christian 19

Mechanicsburg dominated from start to finish Saturday night, rolling past Delaware Christian 69–19, highlighted by a 26 point second quarter.

Bethel 62, Riverside 31

The Riverside Lady Pirates fell at home Saturday to Bethel, 62–31.

  • 3rd — Bethel 43, Riverside 26

Maddie Lemly led Riverside with 16 points, and Kenzie Stotler added 6 points.

The Lady Pirates fall to 3–12 on the season.

Greenon 71, Triad 39

Triad suffered a home loss Saturday night, falling to Greenon 71–39.

Triad Scoring Leaders:

  • Jazz Ford — 7 points, 10 rebounds

  • Emma Martin — 7 rebounds

Triad now stands at 0–10 on the season and 0–13 in OHC play.

SATURDAY BOYS BASKETBALL

Indian Lake 51, Anna 48

Indian Lake picked up a close road win Saturday, edging Anna 51–48.

Indian Lake Scoring:

  • Brodey Reisinger — 19 points

  • Avery Pequignot — 13 points

  • Tyler Tidwell — 7 points

JV — Anna 36, Indian Lake 30

Reed Strayer led Indian Lake with 10 points in the JV matchup.

Waynesfield Goshen 67, Calvary Christian 51

The Calvary Christian Spartans traveled to Waynesfield Goshen for a non-conference matchup and came up short in a hard-fought contest, falling 67–51. Senior Evan Schmidt led the Spartans with 12 points, 7 rebounds, and a block, while Cale Buchenroth also scored 12 points and grabbed 3 rebounds.

JV — Waynesfield Goshen 43, Calvary Christian 32

Aiden Keller paced the JV Spartans with 12 points. Seth Palmer and Kole Gantz each added 6 points, while Cale Buchenroth contributed 4 points.

The Spartans will return to action on January 23rd when they host Emmanuel Christian for a home conference game.
