Several local wrestlers put on impressive performances at their respective district tournaments, earning spots at the state championships.
Benjamin Logan Wrestling: At the DII Southwest District Tournament held at Wilmington High School, three Benjamin Logan wrestlers earned their spots at the state tournament:
- Owen Weaks (144 pounds) – 2nd place
- Ethan Carpenter (175 pounds) – 3rd place
- Owen Jordan (190 pounds) – 2nd place
These three will compete at the DII OHSAA State Championships at The Ohio State University next weekend.
Other Benjamin Logan wrestlers who competed included:
- Hayden Hites (165 pounds) – 5th place
- Kyle Kibler (138 pounds) – 6th place
- Cooper Buck (120 pounds)
- Carter Buck (132 pounds)
- Levi Achor (215 pounds)
Indian Lake Wrestling: Indian Lake also had strong performances with three wrestlers advancing to the state tournament:
- Owen Pummel – 2nd place
- Christopher Timms – 2nd place
- Jordan Henderson – 3rd place
Indian Lake Girls Wrestling: At the regional championships, Maddison Miller, a junior, claimed the title in her weight class and will represent Indian Lake at the OHSAA Women’s Wrestling Meet this weekend. Augusta Beiderman, also a junior, placed 5th and will serve as an alternate.
Graham Wrestling: At the DIII Southwest District Tournament, Graham claimed the district title with an impressive 299.5 points.
They will send 12 wrestlers to the state tournament. Some notable winners include:
- Jake Landis (113 pounds) – District Champion
- Cole Winemiller (144 pounds) – District Champion
- Brogan Tucker (157 pounds) – District Champion
- Kyler Crooks (165 pounds) – District Champion
- Danny Hoke (215 pounds) – District Champion
- Wyatt Kaemmerer (285 pounds) – District Champion
Other state qualifiers from Graham include Baden Root, Blaine DeMarco, Colton Taylor, and Jonas Mannier. Mechanicsburg’s Ronnie Thomas also claimed a district title at 190 pounds.
Triad Wrestling: Triad had an impressive showing with Awsom Mitchell winning the 175-pound title and Wyatt Smith earning a state spot by finishing 4th at 132 pounds.
Urbana Wrestling: At the Division II meet in Wilmington, Urbana’s Zaidan Johnson placed 5th at 285 pounds. Libertie Nigh from Urbana won the girls wrestling district title at 105 pounds, earning a place at state.
West Liberty-Salem Wrestling: The West Liberty-Salem Boys and Wrestling teams competed in their respective district championships. Although Wyatt Shoemaker did not make it into the tournament, three other Tigers wrestled hard, with results as follows:
- Lucas Merriman (126 pounds) – 2-2 record, with a pin and a major decision
- Kyler Langhardt (138 pounds) – 2-2 record, with one pin
- Silas Krabill (165 pounds) – 4-2 record, with a pin and two major decisions, placing 5th
Silas’ 5th place finish earned him an alternate spot, giving him a chance to continue his season.
Additionally, Chloe Griffith from West Liberty-Salem placed 5th at 110 pounds.
