Local Wrestling Teams Compete in Holiday Tournaments

West Liberty-Salem Tigers at GMVWA Holiday Classic
The West Liberty-Salem Tigers competed in the GMVWA Holiday Classic over the weekend.

  • Wyatt Shoemaker went 1-2 at 106 pounds, with one pin.
  • Zayden Shafer went 1-2 at 113 pounds.
  • Madden Kilgore went 2-2 at 120 pounds, missing the podium by just one match.
  • Kyler Langhardt went 2-2 at 138 pounds, with two pins.
  • Silas Krabill went 3-2 at 165 pounds, with two pins and one major decision.
  • Am Bradford went 2-2 at 215 pounds, with one pin and one major decision.

The Tigers will return to competition on January 7th when they face Madison-Plains at home.

Ben Logan Raiders Shine at GMVWA Holiday Tournament
The Ben Logan Raiders competed in the GMVWA Holiday Tournament at Butler High School, finishing 5th in the small school division.

  • Cooper Buck placed 6th and became a two-time GMVWA Holiday Tournament placer.
  • Ethan Carpenter placed 7th.

Other Raiders who competed included Jeremiah Parker (3-2), Carter Buck (2-2), Kyle Kibler (3-2), Owen Weaks (5-2), Kendall Plikerd (3-2), Jordan Pender (3-2), Hayden Hites (3-2), Owen Jordan (3-2), and Levi Achor (0-2).

The Raiders will compete at Valley View High School on January 4th.

Laker Men’s Wrestling at Defiance Border War
The Laker High School men’s wrestling team finished 6th at the Defiance Tri-State Border War Wrestling Invitational, facing teams from Ohio, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Michigan.

  • Owen Pummel won the 285-pound title with a 5-0 record.
  • Czar Dickson finished 3rd at 165 pounds with a 6-1 record.
  • Freshman JJ Shirk placed 4th at 113 pounds (5-2), and Jordan Henderson finished 5th at 120 pounds (4-2).

Other Lakers who contributed included Keshawn Blackwell (3-2 at 126 pounds), Bronx Dickson (2-2 at 132 pounds), Zaiden Bates (1-2 at 157 pounds), Noah Shirk (1-2 at 144 pounds), Taylor Clem (3-2 at 175 pounds), Bryan Moeller (1-2 at 150 pounds), Lucas Chamberlain (1-2 at 190 pounds), and Aaron Rapp (3-2 at 215 pounds).

The Lakers will compete again on January 4th at the Lima Senior Spartan Wrestling Invitational.
