Local high school golfers took on tough competition at the Division II District Tournament held on Wednesday at Pipestone Golf Club.
Riverside senior Reaghan McDaniel capped off an impressive season by shooting an 83, earning 9th place out of 71 individual golfers competing at districts. Her performance places her among the area’s top high school golfers and marks a strong finish to her postseason run. She finishes a fantastic and record-breaking career for the Lady Pirates.
The West Liberty-Salem girls golf team also competed at Pipestone, making their second consecutive trip to the district tournament, a notable achievement for a program that’s only in its fourth year of existence.
Geneva Estep led the Lady Tigers with a score of 102, followed by Marisa Smith with a 110. As a team, WL-S placed 12th out of 12, but was one of only two teams from the sectional and OHC to reach the district level, along with Southeastern.
“There was some really tough competition, and we didn’t have our best outing — that’s a bad combination. But I always say, a person never has a bad day playing golf, there are just some days that are better than others.”
– Head Coach John Stoner
Despite the team’s result, the trip to districts represents another step forward for the young program and sets a strong foundation heading into next season.
