Middle School Volleyball: West Liberty Sweeps West Jefferson, Riverside Falls to Botkins

Middle School Volleyball ramped up Monday evening around the county.

  • The West Liberty-Salem 7th grade volleyball team swept West Jefferson in 2 straight sets, 25-11 & 25-8. Reese Winters and Cortnee Muterspaw were the top servers.
  • WL-S 8th grade team started the season with a win against West Jefferson in a three-set match. In the first set, WL-S fell to West Jefferson 23 to 25. WL-S rallied in the second set, with a win 25 to 14. In the third set, WL-S came out on top with a score of 25 to 15. The top servers for the match were Britton Carter and Reagan Tester.
  • The Riverside 7th grade volleyball team traveled to Botkins for a non-league match on Monday. Botkins won the match in 2 sets, 25-13 & 25-12. Ellie Zwiebel scored 2 points with 1 ace and 1 kill, Eva Dodds scored 1 point and 1ace, Abigail Littlejohn scored 1 point with 1ace and 2 kills, Morgan Klingelhofer scored 1 point with 1 ace, and Emma Pope scored 1 point. Riverside will host Northridge on Thursday at 5:30 PM.
  • The Riverside 8th grade volleyball beat Botkins 25-19, 23-25& 25-17. Maddie Bower had 11 points & 4 aces, Chloe Purtee had 8 points & 4 aces, Molly Carman had 7 points, 5 aces & 3 kills, Kenzie Stotler had 6 points & 4 aces, Addison Shoe had 5 points & 2 aces, and Clara McGill had 4 points & 1 kill. Riverside is 1-1 and plays at home Thursday in league action.
  • The Bellefontaine lady Chiefs 7th-grade volleyball team had a three-set loss to Northridge at home; 16-25, 25-23, and 21-25. Shining for the Lady Chiefs was Lexey Brown with 4 kills and 3 aces. Addison Smith contributed to the offensive attack with 2 kills. Mia Brown tallied a kill, an assist, a dig, and 4 aces while Harmoni Johnson added a kill and an ace. Rosalie Lightle provided a huge spark with her 4 assists and 6 aces. The Chiefs will be in action this Wednesday as they travel to Jonathan Alder for a 5:30 PM conference matchup.
  • The 8th grade Lady Chiefs lost in two sets to Kenton Ridge 2-0. Lyla Connor and Hailey Augustus each had a strong serving game. Ava Oppy had four kills and Kinnley Dunn had a few digs. The Chiefs are on the road Wednesday for their next match.
