It was an exciting night of postseason soccer across the area, with multiple teams battling through tournament action.
At Benjamin Logan, the Raiders pulled off a dramatic 1-0 overtime win over Greenon in the opening round of the OHSAA tournament.
The game nearly ended in regulation when Xavier Allen appeared to score at the buzzer, but officials ruled the shot came too late.
In overtime, senior Aidan Todd was fouled inside the box and converted the penalty kick to seal the victory.
The win improves Benjamin Logan to 12-5-1. They’ll travel to Waynesville on Saturday at 7 p.m. for a District Quarterfinal matchup.
Coach Jamie Hughes praised his team’s effort.
“These kids play with heart and passion and find ways to win… I’m really proud of our guys who keep pushing through the injuries and soreness.”
West Liberty-Salem also advanced with an overtime victory, defeating Milton-Union 2-1.
The Tigers trailed early before Caleb Ling tied it in the second half from a Wyatt Longaberger assist. In extra time, Lance Campbell scored the game-winner off a feed from Conner Leichty.
Goalie Tucker Searles made three saves as WLS improved to 15-2-1. They’ll host Indian Lake Saturday at 7 p.m. in the second round.
Elsewhere, Graham fell to Bethel 3-0 to close out its season.
Bellefontaine’s boys’ team ended its campaign with an 8-0 loss at Tipp City, wrapping up with a 4-13-0 record. The coach’s reflections noted the team’s continued fight and leadership from seniors Wyatt, Cody, Max, Thomas, and Paul, stating that the program is looking ahead to a strong offseason of improvement.
On the girls’ side, Bellefontaine dropped a 3-0 match to Piqua to end its season.
