The Bellefontaine Chieftains nearly had the upset, but lost in the final 4 minutes of the game at home Friday Night against top-ranked Jonathan Alder, 60-54.
The Chiefs owned the first three quarters having complete command of the boards and responding in likeness to every shot the Pioneers made, Bellefontaine owned a 50-45 lead heading into the final quarter.
Unfortunately, the strength of the Jonathan Alder bench was able to hold the Chiefs to just 4 points in the 4th, barely getting by with the win.
Chieftain head coach Harry Stolly, though saddened by the loss, is proud of the efforts his boys put on the floor.
For the Chiefs, Jair Mundy scored 17 points and Grayson Lotts added 11.
Jacob Salyer and Patrick Stolly both helped with 8 points apiece for the Chiefs.
Bellefontaine is back in action again on Saturday at Troy.
Indian Lake hosted Benjamin Logan and easily walked away with the win, 57-23.
Avery Pequignot led the Lakers with 19 points. Brodey Reisinger and Cooper Hall each added 11.

The Riverside Pirates put on an impressive offensive display on the road, defeating Covington 73-57.
Jaxon Woods led the charge with 25 points, 18 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Brody Orsborne delivered a well-rounded performance with 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Gavin Orsborne chipped in 13 points and 2 assists.
Riverside’s JV team fought hard for a 50-46 win, holding off Covington in a tight contest.
Syler Clark led the way with 14 points and 5 rebounds, while Cooper Crouch added 10 points and 2 assists.
Justin Mazariegos provided a strong all-around performance with 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals.
In the freshman game, the young Pirates struggled offensively, falling to Covington 43-18.
Aiden Fout led Riverside with 6 points and 5 rebounds, while Gabe Steineman contributed 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals.
Garrett Purtee made an impact on the boards, pulling down 8 rebounds and adding 2 assists.
Riverside will look to carry this momentum into their next matchup as they continue their season on Saturday at home.
The injury-driven West Liberty-Salem Varsity Tigers defeated visiting Northeastern 76-61.
Senior Isaiah Reames led the Tigers with 21. Beckett Sullivan and Troy Christison helped with 16 and 13 respectively.
The JV Tigers defeated Northeastern 50-11, led by Josiah Johnson’s 15-point effort.
The Tigers play again on Tuesday against Indian Lake.
