Raiders, Pirates battle on ‘Volley for a Cure’ Day

On Saturday, October 4, the Benjamin Logan Lady Raiders defeated the Riverside Lady Pirates in straight sets, 25-15, 25-10, 25-13, on ‘Volley for a Cure’ Day.

Both teams sported pink jerseys, and the day also featured fundraising efforts to help support a local family suffering from illness. The community got involved in different raffles and giveaways to help donate to the cause.

The Lady Raiders were led by their middle blockers. Junior Abby Vance led the way with 12 kills and 4 blocks, while senior Caroline Spriggs tallied 9 kills, 2 blocks, and 5 digs. Freshman Summer Cline led the defense with 13 digs, but also earned 4 kills.

Benjamin Logan also used strong serving to aid their effort. The team gathered 12 aces. Four of them came from libero Marlee Butcher, Georgia Daniels added 3, and Cline and Spriggs each had 2.

For Riverside, Zoey Ransbottom highlighted both the offense and defense, earning 8 assists and 6 digs. Libero Emilee Robinson anchored the back line with 10 digs, and Makayla Hurley led the attack, adding 6 kills.

The Benjamin Logan junior varsity volleyball team defeated Riverside in two sets: 25–21, 25–16.

Despite the loss, Riverside’s Ellie Zwiebel turned in a strong performance with 7 assists and 5 kills. Addison Shoe also contributed with 2 kills and 2 aces for the Lady Pirates.
