Riverside 8th-graders sweep Northridge for first win; local MS volleyball Monday results

Several local middle school volleyball teams were in action Monday night, including Benjamin Logan, Riverside and West Liberty-Salem.

Riverside 2, Northridge 0 — Eighth Grade

Riverside picked up its first win of the season, sweeping Northridge 25-16 and 25-8.

The Lady Pirates came out strong and continued to build their lead throughout the match, finishing with a dominant second set.

Kinsley Crawford led Riverside with seven points, including six aces, along with two kills.

Bella Beaty and Ruth Morrison each scored six points. Beaty recorded four aces, while Morrison had five aces.

Bella Shultz added five points with four aces, while Paloma Quixan scored three points with three aces.

Avery Wheeler also scored three points and added an ace.

Riverside will look to build on its first victory Thursday when the Lady Pirates host Troy Christian. That match is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Truster Gymnasium.

Northeastern 2, West Liberty-Salem 0 — Seventh Grade

The seventh-grade Lady Tigers battled Northeastern in a tight two-set match but came up just short, falling 26-24 and 25-20.

West Liberty-Salem is now 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the OHC.

The Tigers combined for seven aces from the service line in the match.

Northeastern 2, West Liberty-Salem 1 — Eighth Grade

The eighth-grade Lady Tigers also battled the Jets, but Northeastern eventually pulled out a three-set victory.

Northeastern won the opening set 25-10, but West Liberty-Salem answered in the second set with a 25-23 victory to force a deciding third set.

The Jets finished the match with a 25-21 win in the third set.

Despite the loss, the Tigers showed plenty of fight, recording 43 digs and 17 kills during the match.

West Liberty-Salem is now 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the OHC.

The seventh-grade Lady Tigers will be back in action Tuesday, hosting a 5 p.m. match. The Tigers will then travel to Fairbanks Wednesday.

North Union 2, Benjamin Logan 0 — Seventh Grade

North Union earned a 2-0 victory over Benjamin Logan in the seventh-grade matchup, taking the opening set 25-12 before closing out the match 25-10.

The Vikings controlled both sets early and maintained the momentum to complete the straight-set win.

North Union 2, Benjamin Logan 0 — Eighth Grade

The eighth-grade North Union team also picked up a straight-set victory over the Lady Raiders.

North Union won the first set 25-20 and followed with another 25-20 win in the second set.
