Riverside Middle School officially opened its new track on Monday, April 6th, hosting a pair of competitive meets that brought together top teams from across the region. Riverside athletes gave a strong showing in their first home meet, with standout performances in sprints, hurdles, relays, and field events. Benjamin Logan dominated both boys and girls competitions, while Indian Lake impressed with strong individual performances and deep scoring across multiple events at Tecumseh.
The meets highlighted the early-season strength and depth of each program, giving fans a thrilling day of competition. Riverside’s athletes, despite being new to their home track, gained valuable experience and scored points across multiple events, setting the stage for continued growth as the season progresses.
Tecumseh Invitational
Indian Lake Girls – 3rd (114 points)
Indian Lake’s girls used both speed and strength to place third. Carsyn Warnecke won the 100 (14.03) and 200 (30.15), while Abby Bihn took first in the 1600 (6:10.17) and 800 (2:46.51). Samantha Altstaetter claimed first in shot put (30’7”) and third in discus (57’3”), and Samantha Smith scored fourth in long jump (9’9¼”) and fifth in the 200 (32.38).
The 4×400 relay team finished second in 5:06.86, and the 4×100 A relay was third (1:03.41). Nikki Bihn added third in long jump (10’1½”) and fifth in 400 (1:13.83), while Vernicia Austin-Onyema placed fourth in discus (55’10”) and shot put (28’7”). Depth scoring from Ally Stillgess (7th, 100), Kynlee Owens (6th, 400), Reese Imm (7th, 800), Remington Maul (6th, long jump), Audriena Smith (7th, long jump), and the 4×100 B relay (6th, 1:18.50) rounded out the team’s points.

Indian Lake Boys – 4th (67 points)
The boys were led by Oliver Wilson, who earned wins in the seated 100 (29.26) and seated shot put (18’5”). The 4×400 relay placed second (4:27.32), while Zeke McVety was second in pole vault (7’0”). The 4×200 A (1:57.76) and 4×100 A (59.35) added third-place finishes. Hayden Kuhlke placed third in the 400 (1:05.63), while Isaac Roberts scored fifth in the 200 (29.38).
Other scoring performances included Xander Jenkins (5th shot put, 8th 400), Luke McVety (6th PV), JJ Knox (8th 800, 7th long jump), Brier Wilson (7th 100), Chase Whitsett (8th 100), Jaron Nelson (7th 200), Steven Castle (6th long jump), and River Nielsen (7th discus). The 4×100 B relay added sixth place, showcasing the team’s overall depth.\

Riverside Invitational
Benjamin Logan Girls – 1st (176 points)
Benjamin Logan’s girls dominated from start to finish. Della Baker swept the 100 (14.75) and 200 (30.78), while Pippa Zvansky won the 400 (1:03.60) and 200 hurdles (33.46). The Raiders won all three relays: 4×100 (59.04), 4×200 (2:15.80), and 4×400 (4:47.46). Juliana Chapman added first in shot put (29’11”) and third in discus (48’3”).
Additional scoring included Jazmine McGue (2nd, 400), Liberati Walters (2nd, 100 hurdles; 2nd high jump), Whitney Smith (2nd shot put), Isabella Wohlgamuth (2nd long jump), Carolyn Wickline (3rd, 200 hurdles), Makinnly Allen, Paige Courtney, Payton Courtney, Lillienne Pickering (3rd 4×800), Audrey Kuba (3rd high jump), and multiple 4th–6th finishes by Adelia Leonard, Marley Snoke, Zaley Burnside, Kennedy Hannah, Amelia Marmon, Katie Shafer, Macie Marmon, Whitney Smith, Aubriana Gehle, and Lillienne Pickering.
Benjamin Logan Boys – 1st (178.83 points)
Benjamin Logan’s boys also captured first place, thanks to deep talent across all events. Nevada Coleman won the 200 hurdles (30.03) and long jump (17’2”), while Carter Nangle won discus (96’0”). The Raiders swept all four relays: 4×100 (50.96), 4×200 (1:46.87), 4×400 (4:24.28), and 4×800 (11:16.07).
Additional scoring came from Santiago Solano (2nd, 200), Carter Crumm (2nd, 400), Quinn Kuba (2nd, 800), Bentley Hatmaker (2nd, shot put), Hayes Boysel (3rd, 200), Kellen Woodruff (3rd, 400; 3rd, 110 hurdles), Marshall Elliott (3rd, 1600), Cayde Buck (3rd, 200 hurdles), Dylan Manor (3rd, discus), and Stone Angles (3rd, high jump). The depth continued with fourth-place finishes (Stone Angles 200, Marshall Elliott 800, Hollis Boysel 1600, Hayes Boysel 200 hurdles, Carter Nangle shot put, Brayden Sims high jump) and fifth- and sixth-place contributions from multiple athletes across sprints, hurdles, distance, and field events.
The Raiders’ combination of top-level finishes and depth secured a commanding team win in both boys and girls competition.
Riverside Girls – 6th (21 points)
Riverside’s girls competed hard in their first home meet on the new track. Izzy Hudson led the way with a second-place finish in the 100 meters (15.08) and third place in the 400 meters (1:12.83), proving herself one of the team’s top sprinters. Shailyn Giles added points with a fifth-place finish in the 200 meters (33.81) and sixth in the 400 (1:19.26).
Avery Wheeler contributed in the field with a fourth-place finish in the long jump (12-0). These performances, while not enough for a top team finish, showcased the athletes’ growing depth and versatility. Every point counted for Riverside, giving them a total of 21 points and a sixth-place team finish.
Riverside Boys – 4th (62 points)
Riverside’s boys showed balance across track and field, led by Brayden Harshbarger, who had a big day with a win in the 100 meters (12.95), first in high jump (5-2), and second in long jump (16-8). Landen Allen contributed in multiple events, taking third in the 100 (13.33) and fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (19.62). Aarick Savage added a fifth-place finish in the hurdles (20.30).
The 4×100 relay team of Allen, MJ Castallante, Savage, and Charlie Varian placed second in 53.48, while individual field performances boosted the point total: Varian was third in the long jump (16-5), Castallante scored in shot put (6th, 30-10.75) and discus (4th, 71-8), and Landon Olinger contributed in sprints with sixth in the 100 (13.71), 200 (6th), and 400 (1:06.92).
This mix of strong sprinting, hurdling, jumping, and throwing helped Riverside’s boys secure a solid fourth-place finish with 62 points, proving the program has depth across events.
