The Riverside boys golf team opened the 2026 season Monday at White Springs Golf Course, dropping a season-opening match to Ansonia by a final score of 183-197.
Ansonia was led by match medalist Ryder Sanders, who turned in the low round of the day with a 41 to help the Tigers secure the victory.
Riverside was paced by Brody Orsborne, who carded a team-best 43 and narrowly missed medalist honors. Zane Armbruster followed with a 49, while Jaycen Roby added a 50. Syler Clark completed the Pirates’ scoring lineup with a 55 as Riverside began its regular season against a solid Ansonia squad.
Ansonia’s balanced lineup proved to be the difference. In addition to Sanders’ 41, Owen Kaser finished with a 44 and Landyn Kaser recorded a 47. Grant Everman contributed a 51, while Sam Evers shot a 52. Bennett Lehman rounded out the Tigers’ lineup with a 55.
The nine-hole match gave both teams an early opportunity to evaluate their lineups and establish a foundation for the season. Riverside’s top four golfers all gained valuable experience in competitive play as the Pirates look to improve with each match throughout the year.
