Riverside track and field kicked off its season Thursday at the Covington quad meet, with athletes turning in a number of top-five finishes in an encouraging early showing.
The girls’ squad was led by Addison Shoe, who placed in both sprint events—finishing fourth in the 100 meters with a time of 14.12 and third in the 200 meters at 29.15. In the field events, Kenna Johnson secured a third-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 13 feet, 3.75 inches. Valerie Knight also had a strong day in the throws, placing third in discus with a toss of 77 feet, 2 inches, and adding a fifth-place finish in shot put at 24 feet, 4.5 inches.
On the boys’ side, Riverside saw solid contributions across multiple events. Tristin Orsborne placed fifth in the 100 meters (12.52), while Aiden Fout turned in a fourth-place finish in the 1600 meters with a time of 5:32.82. Gabe Steineman added another top-five sprint finish, taking fifth in the 200 meters (24.68), and Joel Brooks rounded out the scoring with a fifth-place effort in the shot put (33 feet, 10 inches).
Overall, Riverside had representation in both track and field events, with multiple athletes placing and gaining valuable early-season experience. The meet served as a strong starting point as the Pirates continue to build depth and consistency moving forward.
Riverside will next compete on Tuesday, April 7th, at Mechanicsburg.
