Riverside, Indian Lake, and Ben Logan ladies win big; Tigers fall

Local high school softball teams picked up big wins on Monday, with strong hitting and solid pitching helping Riverside, Indian Lake, and Benjamin Logan get the job done.

Riverside 13, Troy Christian 1

Brook Hunkler hit two home runs and drove in three runs as Riverside beat Troy Christian in five innings.

She hit her first homer in the second inning and another in the fourth.

Riverside started scoring in the first inning when a passed ball brought in a run.

In the second, Hunkler’s home run and a Troy Christian error added two more.

Jayden Hoffer hit a solo home run in the third inning.

The team had a huge fourth inning, scoring nine runs on seven hits.

Hoffer doubled in two, Hunkler hit a three-run homer, Riley Dillon doubled in two runs, Aubree Huston had a sacrifice fly, and another run scored on an error.

Dillon pitched the full game, striking out 10, giving up just two hits and one run.

She didn’t walk any batters. Hunkler, Dillon, and Hoffer all had two hits.

Riverside had 11 total hits, five walks, and turned one double play.

They play at Covington on Tuesday.

Indian Lake 7, North Union 0

Indian Lake shut out North Union, thanks to a strong pitching performance from Bre Wisener.

She struck out 13 batters and gave up only three hits and one walk in seven innings.

Indian Lake scored three runs in the second inning.

MacKenzie Miller hit an RBI single, and Brylee Buyer hit a line-out that brought in two more runs.

In the third inning, Annie Rapp had a run-scoring single, and Abigail Elliott drove in another with a groundout.

Rapp and Halle Roby each had two hits.

Rapp also had two RBIs and went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Indian Lake plays Shawnee on Tuesday.

Benjamin Logan 11, Graham 1

Rylan Norviel had a big day at the plate for Benjamin Logan, getting three hits, including a home run and two doubles.

Ben Logan beat Graham in five innings.

They got on the board early with three runs in the first.

Tanna Jacobs walked in a run, and both Sidney Sallee and Kylie Harner had RBI singles.

In the second inning, Norviel hit a two-run home run.

The Raiders scored six more runs in the fifth inning.

Jacobs and Sallee hit run-scoring singles, Bryleigh Burnside doubled in two runs, and Keeli Rostorfer and Skylar Miracle each brought in a run with groundouts.

Adilynne Gregg pitched all five innings, giving up six hits and one run.

She struck out four and walked two.

Ben Logan had 11 hits total, and Miracle had two hits and made four plays in the field.

They didn’t commit any errors.

The team plays Graham again on Wednesday.

West Jefferson 9, Tigers 3

The West Liberty-Salem Tigers fell to West Jefferson 9-3 on Monday evening.

Kennedy Wallace and Audrey Collins led the offense for the Tigers, each collecting two hits on the night.

The Tigers will travel to West Jefferson on Tuesday for a rematch.
