The Riverside Junior High Pirates held off Miami East 24-18 Tuesday night at Riverside Veterans Stadium to improve to 2-0 on the season.
Charlie Varian scored two touchdowns for Riverside, while Khai Johnson added a touchdown as the Pirates built a strong first-half lead.
Johnson, Coy Yelton and Casey Hester each added a successful two-point conversion.
Miami East battled back in the second half, but the Riverside defense held on to secure the victory. Jacob Wren and Yelton led the defensive effort for the Pirates.
Riverside will return home Tuesday, September 8, at 5:30 p.m. for its next game.
