West Liberty-Salem Boys Soccer
The West Liberty-Salem Tigers endured a narrow 1-0 defeat against league-rival Fairbanks on Thursday night. The game’s only goal came from a controversial penalty kick. Despite the loss, goalkeeper Tucker Searles had an impressive performance with three saves, helping to keep the game close. Earlier in the season, the Tigers also faced a tough challenge in their opener, falling 1-3 to Legacy Christian with Troy Christison scoring the team’s lone goal. West Liberty-Salem will be back in action on September 29 at home against Graham, with a 7 pm kickoff. The JV team will play at home this Saturday against Kenton Ridge at 1:30 pm.
Benjamin Logan vs. Kenton
In an action-packed game, Benjamin Logan and Kenton finished in a 3-3 draw. The Raiders took an early lead with Aidan Todd scoring, assisted by Brock Henry, and Ethan Miller adding a second goal from Owen Jordan. Kenton pulled one back before halftime, but Miller restored the Raiders’ two-goal lead with a header from Landen Simon’s cross. Despite continued pressure from Benjamin Logan, Kenton managed to score twice more, including a crucial equalizer with five minutes remaining. Coach Hughes expressed frustration over the missed opportunities but is optimistic about the upcoming match against Graham on Monday. Benjamin Logan’s record now stands at 1-0-2, while Kenton is at 1-0-1. The Raiders’ JV team also lost 2-1 to Kenton, with Bode Clapsaddle scoring on a penalty kick.
West Liberty-Salem Girls Soccer
The West Liberty-Salem Girls soccer team faced a challenging start to their OHC season with a 0-4 loss to Fairbanks on Thursday night. Despite a valiant effort, including 20 saves by goalkeeper Audrey Collins, the Tigers were unable to find the back of the net. With a record of 0-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play, the Tigers will look to turn their fortunes around when they host Northeastern at Tiger Stadium on September 3.
Lady Chiefs Fall to Kenton
In a tight match at Acusport Stadium on Thursday, the Kenton Wildcats edged out the Bellefontaine Lady Chiefs 2-1. After a goalless first half, Kenton scored first, but Bellefontaine’s Callie Shumaker equalized shortly after. Kenton then secured the win with a late goal. The Lady Chiefs will play Tecumseh at home on Monday.
Calvary Spartans Triumphs
The Calvary Spartans Varsity soccer team secured a decisive 4-0 win over Miami Valley in a Metro Buckeye League Conference game. The match was 1-0 at halftime thanks to a late goal from Junior Nehemiah Dillon. In the second half, Dillon scored again, with additional goals from Junior Trent Comer and Senior Jeremiah Hermiller sealing the victory.
