Team Champ Swimmers Compete at Urbana; Bellefontaine at Red Devil Invitational; Indian Lake at 2024 Kick-Off Meet

Team Champ swimmers competed Friday, January 5th at the Champaign Family YMCA in Urbana.

In the girl’s competition, the finishers and scores were as follows:

Graham:

  • 200 Medley Relay – Ella Putterbaugh, Grace Smith, Hannah Volp, and Ella Parke 3rd (32 points)
  • 200 Yard Individual Medley – Hannah Volp 3rd (16 points)
  • 50 Freestyle – Hannah Volp 11th (6 points), Ella Parke 12th (5 points), Ella Putterbaugh 13th (4 points) and Eliza Blosser 19th (43.12)
  • 100 Freestyle – Grace Smith 4th (15 points), Ella Putterbaugh 9th (9 points), and Eliza Blosser 12th (5 points)
  • 200 Freestyle Relay – Ella Parke, Ella Putterbaugh, Eliza Blosser, and Grace Smith 3rd (32 points)
  • 100 Backstroke – Ella Parke 4th (15 points)

West Liberty Salem:

  • 200 Medley Relay – Laney Craig, Lily Smith, Lydia Schmidt, and Addison McAuley 4th (30 points)

West Liberty:

  • Kam Hissong – 50 Freestyle 5th (14 points) and 500 Freestyle 2nd (17 points)

Urbana:

  • Owen MacKendrick – 200 Individual Medley 3rd (16 points) and 100 Backstroke 4th (15 points)

London:

  • 200 Freestyle – Caelan Mars 2nd (17 points)
  • 200 Individual Medley – Isaac Capell 2nd (17 points)
  • 50 Freestyle –  Griffin Lotton 1st (20 points), Luke Thompson 2nd (17 points) and Gabe Scholl 10th (11 points)
  • 100 Butterfly – Isaac Capell 2nd (17 points)
  • 100 Freestyle – Griffin Lotton 1st (20 points) and Gabe Scholl 5th (14 points)
  • 500 Freestyle – Caelan Mars 3rd (16 points) and James Thompson 5th (14 points)
  • 200 Freestyle Relay –  Isaac Capell, Gabe Scholl, Caelan Mars, James Thompson 1st (40 points)
  • 100 Backstroke – Isaiah Capell 1st (20 points)
  • 100 Breaststroke – Isaac Capell 1st (20 points), Luke Thompson 2nd (17 points), James Thompson 7th (12 points)
  • 400 Freestyle Relay – Griffin Lotton, Isaiah Capell, Isaac Capell, and Luke Thompson 1st (40 points)

In the team scores, the Urbana girl’s team finished 3rd (out of 7 teams) with 209 points followed by West Liberty Salem in 4th (178 points), Graham in 5th (155 points), and Mechanicsburg in 7th (37 points).

For the boys, London was 1st (out of 7 teams) with 312 points, Graham 3rd (183 points), Triad 5th (35 points), West Liberty Salem and Urbana tied for 6th (31 points).

The Chieftain girl’s swimmers traveled to Trotwood-Madison High School Saturday for the highly competitive Red Devil Invitational.

The girls scored 64 points to finish 10th of 15 teams.

Scoring for the Chiefs:

  • Ashton Carey – 9 points – 9th 500 Free (PR)
  • Emma Costin – 2 points – 15th 500 Free
  • Kaeleigh Flora – 2 points – 15th 100 Free (PR)
  • Claire McDaniel – 1 point – 16th 100 Breast
  • 200 Medley Relay – 10th – Kate Myers, Ashton Carey, Kaeleigh Flora, Kaidi Freeman
  • 200 Free Relay – 9th – Kaeleigh Flora, Kate Myers, Gillian Steele, Ashton Carey
  • 400 Free Relay – 13th – Emma Costin, Ella Fultz, Kaidi Freeman, Lexi Buffkin

Additionally, the girls achieved 13 personal best times.

Top drops came from Ashton Carey dropping 12.66 in 200 IM and -7.84 in 500, Kaeleigh Flora -2.54 in 200 IM and -1.21 in 100 Free, Kate Myers -2.86 in 200 Free, and Kaidi Freeman dropping 1.79 seconds from 100 back.

The team next competes in the Southwest Ohio Classic next Saturday and Sunday.

 

The Chieftain boys traveled to Trotwood-Madison High School for the highly competitive Red Devil Invitational.

The boys finished 8th of 15 teams.

  • John Fulmer – 25 points – 6th 100 Free (PR), 7th 100 Back (PR)
  • Elias Abrego – 23 points – 3rd 50 Free, 10th 100 Fly
  • Ryan Alexander – 7 points – 15th 200 Free, 12th 100 Free (PR)
  • Cooper Harman – 7 points – 16th 200 Free, 11th 500 Free
  • Nolan Core – 6 points – 14th 100 Fly, 14th 100 Back

 

  • 200 Medley Relay – 10th – John Fulmer, Cody Hudson, Elias Abrego, Ryan Alexander
  • 200 Free Relay – 9th – John Fulmer, Cooper Harman, Nolan Core, Ryan Alexander
  • 400 Free Relay – 8th – Nolan Core, Cody Hudson, Cooper Harman, Elias Abrego

The boys had a strong showing scoring in many events and reaching 9 personal best times.

Top drops were seen from Cody Hudson -4.97 in 200 Free and -2.1 in 100 Free, Beckham Harman dropping 1.53 in breaststroke, and Jaylen Henry -1.84 seconds in backstroke.

The team next competes in the Southwest Ohio Classic next Saturday and Sunday.

The Boys and Girls Laker Swim teams both earned second-place finishes in the multi-team 2024 Kick-Off Meet last night at the Champaign County YMCA.

For the Lakers, Annie Braig swam to first place in the 100-yard butterfly and the 50-yard freestyle races.

Caleb Altstaetter was first in the 200-yard freestyle and second in the 100-yard freestyle.

Ashlynn Biederman scored second place in the 100-yard freestyle and third in the 50-yard freestyle.

Gavin Spring was third in the 100-yard breaststroke and Titus Kelly was third in the 100-yard backstroke.

For the Lady Lakers, the 400-yard freestyle relay team came in first and the 200-yard medley relay was second.

Both the boy’s 400-yard freestyle relay team and the 200-yard freestyle relay team swam to second.

The teams have a busy week coming up as they swim at Wapak on Monday, the Marion Y on Wednesday, Tecumseh on Saturday, and Jonathan Alder on Sunday.
