Tigers and Chiefs win District Track Meet; Calvary & Indian Lake advance athletes

The West Liberty-Salem girls track and field team won its second consecutive DIII Southwest District championship Saturday at Graham High School.  The top four individuals in each event qualified for next week’s DIII Southwest Regional meet at Troy.
Delaney Jones powered the Tigers with three individual first-place finishes in the 100-meter dash (12.15- District record),  200-meter dash (25.13- District record and school record), and Long Jump (16’7.25).  Jones also ran on the first place 4×100 Meter Relay with Tori Douthwaite, Gwen McCullough, and Chloe Griffith.  The team also set a new district record (49.89).
Second-place finishes for WLS included Sophia Hardwick in the 100 Meter Hurdles (16.31) and 300 Meter Hurdles (47.53) and Malia Miller in the 1600 Meter Run (5:24.53).
Third place finished included Claire Longshore in the 100 Meter Hurdles (16.41) and 300 Meter Hurdles (48.74), Ashley Yoder in the 1600 Meter Run (5:29.96), Addison McAuley in the 800 Meter Run (2:26.08), Malia Miller in the 3200 Meter Run (11:58.97) and the 4×200 Meter Relay team of Tori Douthwaite, Mallory Bostick, Claire Longshore and Gwen McCullough (1:49.97).
Rounding out the Regional qualifiers for the Tigers in fourth place were Chloe Griffith in the 100-meter dash (12.93) and Mallory Bostick in the 400-meter dash (1:01.78).
Scorers for WLS included the 4×400 Meter Relay team of Ashley Yoder, Gwen McCullough, Claire Longshore, and Mallory Bostick 5th place (4:12.69), Elise Longshore Pole Vault (9’0) 5th place, Tori Douthwaite Pole Vault 6th Place (8’6) and 200 Meter Dash 7th place (28.27),  Taylor Kennedy 6th Place 3200 Meter Run (13:13.14), Sophia Hardwick 7th Place Discus (95’0), Gwen McCullough 800 Meter Run 8th Place (2:38.55).
The Tigers will compete at the DIII Southwest Regional Meet on Wednesday, May 22nd, and Friday, May 24th at Troy Stadium.
The West Liberty-Salem boys track team competed at the Division 3 District meet hosted at Graham and took first place out of 16 teams. This is their third straight district title which ties a program record.

The Bellefontaine lady Chieftains claimed their 4th district title of the last 6 seasons.

Coach Ben Davis comments on the win, “It is a great day to win a district title.  We had contributions from all facets of our team.  Winning the title is not taken for granted.  Getting the 1-2  and 2-3 punches from discus, 300 hurdles, and long jump was enormous.  The wins out of Kelsie, Grace, and the 400 relay team was massive.”

The Chieftain boys placed 3rd at the District Meet.

The Indian Lake boys placed 9th and scored 37 points at Districts.
Quest Clay was 4th in the 100 m dash (11.33 PR) and 2nd in long jump (20-7.25 PR).
Brody Parsell was 2nd in pole vault (13-6 PR).
Placing 5th was Gavin Henry in 110 hurdles (15.93 PR) and Noah Shirk in 300 m hurdles (43.21 PR).
Christopher Timms was 6th in shot put (47-1.5)
Placing 7th was the 4×100 relay team of Henry, Clay, Heath Wilson, and Drake Cosby (45.2) and the 4×400 relay team of Cosby, Shirk, Bryan Mohler, and Everett Wischmeyer (3:37.48).
Placing 8th was the 4×200 relay team of Wilson, Clay, Cosby and Mohler (1:36.62).

The girls placed 11th and scored 26 points at Districts. 

Addison Beck was 4th in long jump (16-9.5 PR), 5th in the 200 m dash (26.84), and 6th in the 100 m dash (13.07).
Reagan Rash was 4th in the 800 m run (2:22.75 PR)
Maddie Miller was 4th in discus (108-8).
Ava Faler was 6th in high jump (5-0 PR).
The 4×800 relay team of Hannah Metzger, Alicia Brielmaier, KaiLea Miller, and Evie Wagner was 8th (11:16.99).
The Benjamin Logan boys team finished 11th out of 16 scoring 32.5 points.

The 4 x 200 relay team of Collin Powell, Ben Chamberlain, Carter Buck, and Dylan Vance finished 3rd and qualified for Regionals with a time of 1:31.52(PR).  They will race again on Thursday in the Regional Prelims at Piqua.

Cater Buck placed 6th in the 110H (17.27), 300H(43.3 PR), and 8th in the 200(24.02).  Ben Chamberlain finished 6th in the 400 (51.73 PR), Tyler Shoopman was 8th in the 800 (2:01.78 PR), and 4 x 400 relay team of Dylan Vance, Eric Hughes, Tyler Shoopman, and Ben Chamberlain finished 5th (3:32.71).

Also competing were Roman Maxwell in High Jump (5’6”), Jaxon Bowman in shot put (36’4”), Gus Bibart shot put (39’2.5”), Eric Hughes 800 (2:09.23), Eli Rhodes 3200(10:56 PR), and Kyle Kibler 3200 (12:52).

The Benjamin Logan girls took 4th place at the Southwest District Track & Field Championships on Saturday.

Regional Prelims will be held at Piqua High School on Thursday, May 23. The field event begins at 5:00. Running events begin at 6:30 pm.

Regional finals at Piqua will be held on Saturday, May 25. Field events begin at 11:00 am with the running to begin at 12:30 pm.
