In a game broadcast on 98.3 WPKO, the West Liberty-Salem boys held off Greenon 60-55 in the opening round of the Division III Sectional held at Northmont High School Thursday.

Greenon started off hot, going on a 10-2 run in the first quarter. The Tigers would claw their way back to cut the Knight’s lead to 5, 15-10, at the end of the first.

WL-S would start to figure things out on the court and would outscore Greenon 14-10 in the second stanza to go into the halftime break, down one, 25-24.

Much like the last time these two teams played back in early January, it was a very close contest Thursday evening, and the third quarter showed it.

The Tigers would pour in 18 points to Greenon’s 17 to even the game at 42 all at the end of three.

Greenon gave it all they had in the final quarter but they did not have enough in the tank, as the Tigers came out on top by 5, 60-55.

Taran Logwood finished the game with 20 points, Miles Hostetler added 18, and Brevin Louden tossed in 10.

West Liberty-Salem will return to Northmont next Thursday to take on the #2 seed Preble Shawnee Indians. The tip-off is slated for 7:30

In Division III girls’ tournament action, Indian Lake fell to Versailles 57-31.

Mackenzie Dixon had 11 points in the effort, and Stephanie Altstaetter added 9.

Also scoring for Indian Lake was Allison Kinney with 4 points, Katie Roby had 3, and Haylee Edwards and Kennedy Schwaderer each scored 2.
