Triad 13, Shekinah Christian 0

The Triad Lady Cardinals earned their first win of the season in dominant fashion, shutting out Shekinah Christian 13-0 in a run-shortened game.

Triad’s pitching staff combined for a no-hitter, striking out eight of the 16 batters faced in a commanding performance in the circle.

The Cardinals did all their scoring early, plating six runs in the first inning, four more in the second, and three in the third—all while recording just two hits. Emma Martin accounted for both, delivering an RBI triple in the first and a leadoff single in the second.

Triad capitalized on control issues from Shekinah Christian pitching, drawing 21 walks in the game, including six with the bases loaded. In total, 15 different Cardinals reached base, and six players scored runs.

Triad will next travel to DeGraff to face Riverside on Saturday.

Northwestern 10, Urbana 5

The Urbana Lady Hillclimbers suffered their first loss of the season, falling 10-5 on the road to the Northwestern Lady Warriors.

Urbana struck first in the opening inning, as Morgan Hoffman scored on a passed ball with two outs. Pitcher Isla Wooten worked around traffic in the bottom half to preserve a 1-0 lead after one.

Northwestern tied the game in the second with a two-out RBI single, but Urbana answered in the third. Addie Fox lined an RBI single to left to score Chloe Easterday and regain the lead, though the Hillclimbers left the bases loaded.

The Lady Warriors responded in the bottom of the third, tying the game with an RBI single before taking the lead on an error that allowed two runs to score, making it 4-2.

Easterday drove in a run with an RBI double in the fourth to pull Urbana within one, but Northwestern answered again with a three-run inning highlighted by a two-RBI double and an RBI single to extend the lead to 7-3.

Urbana chipped away with a run in the fifth on a passed ball that scored Morgan Boyd, but Northwestern put the game away in the sixth with two RBI singles and a run-scoring groundout to reach double digits.

Lillian Webb added an RBI single in the seventh to score Hoffman, but Urbana couldn’t complete the comeback.

Fox and Boyd each recorded two hits for Urbana, while Hoffman scored twice.

Urbana will next face Kenton Ridge in the first game of a back-to-back set on Monday, April 6.
