Turner’s hat trick leads Bellefontaine; Benjamin Logan sweeps Tecumseh in local soccer results

Bellefontaine 3, Springfield Shawnee 1 (boys)

The Bellefontaine boys soccer team picked up a 3-1 victory over Springfield Shawnee Wednesday night.

Ethan Turner opened the scoring with 28 minutes remaining in the first half, finishing off an assist from Sean Miller. Shawnee answered with 18 minutes left in the half to send the teams into halftime tied 1-1.

Turner put the Chieftains back in front with 37 minutes remaining in the second half, converting a penalty kick. He completed the hat trick with 23 minutes left on an assist from Grady Graham to give Bellefontaine the 3-1 victory.

The Chieftains improve to 6-4-2 overall and 5-3 in CBC play.

Head coach Steve Henry said the team is continuing to learn how to win, pointing to its focus, energy and confidence while also noting the need for more consistency. Henry added that Turner has been “on fire” recently and said he would like to see some of the other attackers get going to provide more balance.

Bellefontaine will host Bluffton Saturday, with the JV match at 10 a.m. and varsity at 11:45 a.m.

Benjamin Logan 2, Tecumseh 0 (boys)

The Benjamin Logan boys soccer team defeated Tecumseh 2-0 Wednesday night.

The Raiders remained scoreless through the first half before Xavier Allen broke the tie with 16 minutes remaining on a strong strike.

Ben Solano added an insurance goal with five minutes remaining to seal the victory.

Benjamin Logan has now won a school-record five straight matches and improves to 8-3-3 on the season. With two regular-season games remaining, the Raiders sit atop the CBC Mad River Division.

Benjamin Logan will travel to Urbana Thursday for another CBC crossover match at 7 p.m.

Benjamin Logan 2, Tecumseh 0 (girls)

The Benjamin Logan girls soccer team earned a 2-0 victory over Tecumseh Wednesday night.

Paislee Rodenberger and Kaylee Hays each scored first-half goals for the Raiders, with Rodenberger also credited with an assist.

Goalkeeper Avery Rogers made five saves to record her ninth shutout of the season.

Benjamin Logan improves to 12-2-1 and has now gone unbeaten in its last 10 matches while winning six straight. The Raiders have allowed just three goals during their 10-game unbeaten streak.

Benjamin Logan will return home Monday to host Piqua at 7:30 p.m.

London 8, Indian Lake 1 (girls)

The Indian Lake girls soccer team fell to London 8-1 Wednesday night.

The Lakers’ lone goal came from junior Rya Pequignot, who scored off a cross from freshman Abby Bihn.

Indian Lake will look to bounce back Thursday when it hosts North Union at Laker Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
