Urbana uses strong fourth quarter to win District
The Urbana Lady Hillclimbers rallied in the fourth quarter to beat Batavia in the District Final at Troy High School.
Urbana led most of the game until the Bulldogs went up 40-36 early in the fourth quarter.
The Hillclimbers turned it up a notch and went on a 14-0 run to lead 50-40.
The Bulldogs could only get as close as 5 points over the last 2:00 as Urbana moved on with a 58-48 victory.
Urbana outscored Batavia 22-10 in the fourth quarter.
CBC Kenton Trail Player of the Year Peyton Mounce poured in 36 points including hitting 9-12 from the free throw line. Alex Dixon had 12 and Olivia Mackendrick scored 6.
Averie Layman scored 22 points for the Bulldogs.
The Hillclimbers are 21-4 and will play in the Regional Semifinal Tuesday night at Vandalia.
Urbana boys hold off Shawnee
Fans of the Hillclimbers watched their girls cut down the net at Troy and quickly jumped on I-75 and went to Sidney High School to watch the boys face Shawnee.
In a low-scoring affair, Urbana would hold a 17-15 at halftime thanks to 8 points from Grady Lantz.
The Hillclimbers led most of the second half until Shawnee pulled ahead by 1 point with about a minute left in the game.
Grady Lantz was fouled and hit two free throws to give his team the lead 36-35.
Shawnee gave the ball back to Urbana where Julian Davis hit two more free throws for a 38-35 lead.
Shawnee was able to heave a shot from half-court as time expired, but it fell short.
Grady Lantz paced the Hillclimbers with 14 points. Drew Dixon had 9 (all 3’s) and Julian Davis 8.
The Hillclimbers went 9-15 from the charity stripe. Shawnee shot 5-7 from the line.
Urbana moves on to face Brookville on Wednesday night at 7:30.
Bellefontaine rallies in second half to beat Bethel
Bellefontaine traveled to Xenia Saturday to face Bethel in Division IV tournament action.
The Chiefs found themselves down 20-17 at halftime.
A strong third quarter saw Bellefontaine take an eleven-point lead 39-28.
Bethel stormed back and got it within 2 with 30 seconds left, but BHS scored the last five points for a 55-48 win.
Grayson Lotts led the Chiefs with 15. Jair Mundy added 12.
Bellefontaine will face Oakwood Wednesday night.
Spartans fall to Troy
The Calvary Christian Spartans lost in the first round of the OHSAA tournament against Troy Christian by a score of 64-26.
Daniel Young led the team scoring 8 points.
Evan Schmidt chipped in 7 points, Luke Gaertner had 5 points, Zeeke Wylie scored 4 points and Christian Rogan added 2 points.
