West Liberty 2 (Choice Property Real Estate) opened its 10U softball season Monday night with a hard-fought 8-7 victory over DeGraff 2, surviving a close finish to earn its first win of the year.

West Liberty’s offense came through with timely hitting throughout the game, led by Alayne Campbell, who recorded two hits to pace the lineup. Alayna Lapp and Hadley Robinson each drove in a pair of runs, helping West Liberty build enough offense to hold off DeGraff down the stretch.

Inside the circle, Emirie Conly gave West Liberty a strong start, pitching three solid innings and helping keep DeGraff in check early in the contest. Winnie Cotrell then came on in relief and shut the door late, preserving the one-run victory and securing the season-opening win.

The 8-7 result gives West Liberty 2 a 1-0 start to the season as the team looks to build momentum heading into the early portion of its schedule.
