The West Liberty-Salem boys’ varsity soccer team opened Ohio Heritage Conference play with a 9-0 victory over Northeastern Thursday night.
The Tigers controlled the match from the start, giving many players valuable game experience.
Elijah Christison, Wyatt Longaberger, and Kamden Yang each scored two goals, while Lance Campbell, Brock Burgel, and Jake Lauck added one goal apiece.
Assists came from Longaberger with three, and Tucker Searles, Braden Hershberger, Noah Sarver, and Conner Leichty each contributed one.
WLS will return to action Monday, August 25, at Springfield Catholic at 7:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Bellefontaine Chieftains fell 1-0 at home to Jackson Center Thursday night.
The lone goal came in the first half, and despite a strong effort from the varsity squad, the Chieftains could not find the equalizer.
On the junior varsity side, Bellefontaine secured a 1-0 victory over Ben Logan with a goal by Liam Scott, assisted by Laikyn Board.
Coach notes that while the varsity team continues to play with passion, they need to improve their passing and off-ball movement to sustain attacks.
Bellefontaine travels to Tecumseh on Monday for another challenging matchup.
