The West Liberty-Salem Tigers dropped their home contest to Versailles on Thursday, falling 8–1 in a game where offensive opportunities were hard to come by.

Versailles struck early, using three consecutive two-out singles in the first inning to take a 1–0 lead. They added another run in the fourth following an error in center field, then broke things open in the fifth with a two-run home run to extend the lead to 4–0. The visitors continued to build momentum in the sixth, capitalizing on a sacrifice fly and a two-out, two-run single to make it 7–0 heading into the final inning.

An additional run crossed for Versailles in the seventh on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch before West Liberty-Salem got on the board. Isaac Sertell delivered the lone highlight for the Tigers with a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the seventh.

Sertell finished 2-for-4 at the plate and accounted for the team’s only run, while Jeremiah Johnson also recorded two hits on the day.

With the loss, West Liberty-Salem falls to 0–2 on the season. The Tigers will look to bounce back Saturday when they host the Benjamin Logan Raiders, with the game scheduled to be broadcast live on PeakofOhioTV, weather permitting.
