WL-S knocks off Mechanicsburg; more basketball finals

The West Liberty-Salem boys basketball program earned a clean sweep over Mechanicsburg on Friday night, picking up wins at the varsity and junior varsity levels.

The West Liberty-Salem varsity team (7–2 overall, 5–1 OHC) pulled away for a 60–43 victory. Troy Christison led the Tigers with 16 points, while Brevin Louden added 12 and Brandel Sullivan chipped in 11. Sutton Wilcoxon scored 7 points, Carson Poppe and Sam Strapp each finished with 6, and Beckett Sullivan added 2.

In junior varsity action, the West Liberty-Salem JVA team (8–1 overall) dominated from start to finish, defeating Mechanicsburg 63–25. Connor Leichty led all scorers with 21 points, followed by Casey Boyer with 17 and Tucker Searles with 12. Asher Cole scored 5, Josiah Johnson added 4, and Reagan McCullough and Tyler Hershberger each contributed 2.

West Liberty-Salem’s JVB, JVA, and varsity teams will all be back in action Tuesday, January 6, at Cedarville.

The Urbana boys basketball team picked up another strong win Friday night, defeating Dublin Jerome 56–40. The victory improves the Hillclimbers to 8–1 on the season.
