WL-S Middle School takes 1st and 2nd Saturday; Chiefs take 4th and 5th Sunday – Jr High XC results

Area middle school cross-country teams competed in post-season action over the weekend.

On Saturday, the West Liberty-Salem boys team won the OHSAA Middle School Section A Invite at Fortress Obetz.

There were 18 teams competing and 176 total runners.

Finishing for the Tigers was:

Brayan Gullett 7th 11:27 Podium

Adly Knox 11th 11:34 Medalist

Asher Cole 24th 12:02 Medalist

Zac Carter 36th 12:15

Zeke Longshore 37th 12:17

Casey Boyer 129th 14:02

Callen Craig 162nd 16:02

The WL-S boys finish their season with a record of 125-1.

The Lady Tigers were 2nd out of 14 teams in the Section A race with 147 total runners.

Hattie Jacobs lead the way for WL-S coming in 2nd in a time of 12:38. Addi Wallen was 4th in a time of 12:41. Both Jacobs and Wallen made the podium.

The Lady Tigers finish their season with a record of 88-6.

Coach Lauck & Longshore comments:

“We are very pleased how these athletes battled through adversity (sickness) to sacrifice for their team.

This was a great capstone on a special season. We are excited to see how they learn from this experience to help them grow as young adults.”

On Sunday, the Bellefontaine girls finished 4th at the Division II Middle School State Meet.

Grace Brown won the race and was crowned as Ohio’s fastest middle school girl as she had the fastest time across all 3 divisions, with an 11:31.

Brown finished her season undefeated and repeated as the DII State Champion.

The Chieftain boys finished their season placing 5th at the DII Middle School State Meet.

Jake Moreland brought home a top-15 medal placing 4th overall.

Oliver Grandstaff and Landon Rister finished off their seasons strong with personal best times.

Grace Brown, Jake Moreland, and Oliver Grandstaff will compete in the XC Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky on November 5th.

Benjamin Logan also competed at the DII Middle School State Meet.

The Lady Raiders placed 7th out of 30 schools.

Bonnie Brunson led the pack placing 27th in a time of 14:03. Next was Gwendolyn Smith, 33rd in 14:19, Lottie Bodin, 37th 14:26, Molly Siefring, 43rd, 14:36, Lauren Kennedy, 58, 15:15, Ella Stoodt, 77th, and Penelope Elliott 82nd.

Max Troth and Gabe Elsasser represented the boys’ team.

Troth placed 57th in 12:38 and Elsasser was 66th in 12:50.
