The West Liberty-Salem boys soccer teams were back on the field Saturday, with the varsity Tigers dropping a close 3-2 decision to Milton Union while the junior varsity team battled to a 2-2 tie.
The varsity match was a competitive contest from start to finish, with the Tigers finding the back of the net twice.
Kamden Yang and Landon Zanfirov each scored a goal for West Liberty-Salem, helping keep the Tigers within striking distance throughout the match. Eli Jones and Conner Leichty each recorded an assist.
Tucker Searles was busy in goal for the Tigers, finishing the match with six saves as West Liberty-Salem battled Milton Union on both ends of the field.
Despite the loss, the Tigers have opened the season with a 1-1 record and will have a chance to bounce back at home Tuesday night.
West Liberty-Salem will host Fairbanks in a varsity matchup Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
The WLS junior varsity team also put together a strong effort, battling Milton Union to a 2-2 draw.
Liam Baldwin and Jaden Caldwell each scored a goal for the Tigers, while Drew Piacentino came up with five saves in goal.
The JV Tigers will return to action Wednesday afternoon when they travel to take on Benjamin Logan. That match is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
