Tigers hot shooting ends Rams season; Calvary Christian falls in tournament

The West Liberty-Salem girls ran past fellow OHC team Greeneview 60-23 Wednesday at Covington in the Division III Sectional.

The Rams dared the Tigers to shoot from the perimeter and WL-S was up to the task hitting three-pointers all over the floor.

Ava Astorino hit four in the first half and Megan Hollar added three more.  The Tigers hit 9 three’s for the game.

Defense also played a role as WL-S held a lead of 21-13 after the first quarter and proceeded to shutout the Rams in the 2nd frame outscoring them 23-0 to take a 44-13 halftime lead.

The Tigers backed off in the 2nd half and took out the starters early in the 4th quarter.

Ava Astorino led the team with 15 points (five three-pointers) while Chaley Wade added 14, Megan Hollar had 11, Bailey Poppe 9, Lilly Weaver 7, and Maddie & Kayla Cole each had 2 points.

West Liberty-Salem moves to (14-10) and will face Preble Shawnee in the Sectional Final Monday night at 6:00 on 98.3 WPKO.

Preble Shawnee beat Graham 63-30.

In Division IV from Sidney, Jackson Center eliminated Calvary Christian 49-9.
