Wrestling teams battle at weekend tournaments

The Indian Lake Girls’ Wrestling team competed at the Iron Maiden Tournament in Bellefontaine, one of the largest and most competitive events of the year, with 64 teams in attendance.

The Lady Lakers earned a 4th place overall finish as a team.

Maddie Miller took home the championship in her weight class, avenging her only loss of the season with a dominating 10-2 victory.

Augusta Biederman finished 3rd at 140 pounds.

Karsyn Newkirk (120), Riley Shaner (125), Annie Rapp (145), and Kiylee Haude (155) all earned 5th place finishes.

Myiah Ankrom finished in 8th place.

Other wrestlers who competed for the Lady Lakers were Lili Mackesy (120), Diem Martin (130), and Addyson Roby.

The Indian Lake Wrestling teams will host a home dual on Wednesday.

The Indian Lake Men’s Wrestling team competed in the 54th annual Sam Ridder Invitational in Eaton on Friday and Saturday.

The Lakers came away with the team title in the 30-team event outscoring second-place Tippecanoe 198.5-162.

Leading the Lakers were tournament Champions Jordan Henderson 120lbs and Owen Pummel 215lbs.

Finishing in 3rd for the Lakers were 113lb JJ Shirk, 157lb Czar Dickson, and 215 Aaron Rapp.

Tristan Shoffner 190lbs was 4th Bronx Dickson 132lbs and Heavyweight Chris Timms was 5th and 144lb Gavin Henry was 6th to round out the Laker place winners.

Coming up just one match short of placement were 106lb Cash Scott 126 Keshawn Blackwell 138lb Draden Stevenson and 165lb Logan Hale.

The Lakers are back in action this Wednesday at home hosting Parkway for our final home event of the season at 6 PM and on Saturday in St. Paris for the first round of the State duals.

The Ben Logan Raiders had hosted the Raider Invitational, finishing in 2nd place.

Kyle Kibler (138), Owen Weaks (144), and Hayden Hites (165) all took 1st place in their respective weight classes.

Ethan Carpenter (175) and Owen Jordan (190) earned 2nd place finishes.

Jeremiah Parker (120), Carter Buck (132), and Levi Achor (215) placed 3rd, while Cooper Buck (126) and Kendall Plikerd (150) rounded out the Raiders’ top performances with 5th and 6th place finishes, respectively.

The Bellefontaine Chieftains wrestled their way to a 10th-place finish at the Ben Logan Raider Invitational, competing against 21 other teams.

Jeffrey Smith (113) and Zavier May (157), both placed 3rd in their weight classes.

Jared Young (126) took 6th place in a highly competitive field.

The Chieftains also had a number of wrestlers who fought hard but came up just shy of placing, including Eli Deal (132), Maddox Keith (132), Andrew Larison (138), Ricky Smiley (144), Hayden Alinson (150), Caleb Lillard (157), and Noah Torsell (175).

Next up for the Chieftains is the Battle of Route 68 Program Dual on Wednesday in Urbana, where the high school and middle school teams will compete.
