Youth basketball teams shine in weekend action

The West Liberty-Salem 5th grade boys basketball team had a mixed weekend of action.

In their first matchup, they fell to Bellefontaine 31-25, with Braxton Louden leading the way with 15 points, followed by Isaac Falloon with 10 points and Parker Knight contributing 1 point.

In their second game, West Liberty-Salem bounced back with a solid 29-13 win over Southeastern.

Louden again led the team with 15 points, while Falloon added 10 points, and Knight finished with 4 points.

The Benjamin Logan 7th grade girls basketball team concluded their season with a 17-1 record, wrapping up their season with a win against Jonathan Alder.

The Lady Raiders were led by Maci Stafford, who scored 14 points and added 2 rebounds and 1 steal.

Mica Coaty contributed 5 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, while Michaelee Hoge had an outstanding game with 4 points, 22 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals.

Layla Schneider added 4 points and 5 steals, and Addy Leonard finished with 3 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals.

The 8th grade boys team from Benjamin Logan defeated Springfield Shawnee 47-20.

Micah Gregg led the Raiders scoring 16 points and collecting 7 rebounds, while Carrick Spriggs added 15 points and 6 rebounds.

Gabe Predmore contributed 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 6 assists, and Colten Little had 4 points and 3 assists.

The Raiders improved to an 11-6 record and will continue their tournament run with a matchup against Tecumseh on Monday.

The West Liberty-Salem 8th grade boys basketball team won the OHC Championship title, defeating Fairbanks 42-39.

Brandel Sullivan was the team’s leading scorer with 19 points, while Grant Krabill added 10 points.

Tyler Hershberger contributed 8 points, and Isaiah Barth chipped in with 3 points.

With a 16-2 record, the team celebrated their OHC Championship victory.

Indian Lake’s 7th grade boys basketball team won their first game of tournament action, defeating Northwestern 41-7.

Miller Hall led the offensive charge with 19 points, including three 3-pointers.

Mason Berg added 10 points, and Colt Volbrecht contributed 5 points.

Broxtyn Emrick, Issac Roberts, and Fletcher Brown all contributed to the team’s win.

The Lakers will take on Jonathan Alder in the second round of the tournament.

The Bellefontaine 8th grade boys basketball team faced a tough loss to Northwestern, falling 49-23.

Tyrin Johnson was a standout performer, scoring 10 points for the team.
