1928-2026
Alberta M. “Miss Bertie” Fulkerson, 97, of Rushsylvania, went peacefully into the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on Sunday morning, August 30, 2026, at Otterbein Green Hills Assisted Living Inn, surrounded by her children.
Alberta was born on November 3, 1928, a daughter of the late Wardner Leroy Wallace and Mary Ruth (Weiser) Wallace, her being one of eleven children. She was a 1947 graduate of Huntsville High School.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles C. Fulkerson, a daughter, Rose Mary Ford, and granddaughter, Karissa Ford. Alberta was also preceded in death by her brothers, Bill, Carrol, Harold, Roy, and Albert, her twin; and sisters, Kathryn, Martha, Mary Evelyn, and Wanda.
Alberta married Charles C. “Chuck” Fulkerson on March 6, 1948, at the Belle Center Presbyterian parsonage. Alberta and her husband were lifelong farmers in the Rushsylvania area, where she was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church
Her activities included the Whiley Guild, Farmer Friends Farm Bureau Council, Farm Bureau member, and the Hi-Point See-Saws square dance club, of which she and Chuck spent many fun hours practicing their “do-si-dos and promenades” with a wonderful group of friends.
Alberta is survived by her son, Chuck (Lana) Fulkerson; daughters, Sheryl (Sonny) Goings, and Jeannie (Gary) Wren; son-in-law, Bob Ford; grandchildren, Ken (Meredith) Ford, Kay (Mike) Amstutz, Kileen (Justin) Rockhold, Katie (George) Kennedy, Angie (Wes) Jackson, April (John) Fultz, Liz (Chris) Cramer, Becky (Chris) Enderle, Nicci (Dan) Fagan, Brandon (Audrey) Wren and Denver (Maria) Wren. Her family also included numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Alberta is also survived by her dear youngest sister, Florence Whisman, and many nieces and nephews.
Her greatest memories were spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She loved being caught up on adventures, activities, and sporting events they were each involved in.
The children of Alberta “Miss Bertie” express our sincere gratitude to Jeannette and Karla. Due to their help and dedication, Mom was able to enjoy life in the comfort of her home for a much longer period of time. We are also very thankful for the love and care Mom received from the many nurses, aides, staff, and friends at Otterbein Green Hills Inn. All of you made her time there very enjoyable for her; you are all a true blessing.
Visitation for Alberta will be on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 10 am – 12 Noon at Eichholtz & Daring Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Bellefontaine, where Pastor Jeffory Willetts will officiate the funeral at 12 Noon. Burial follows at Rushsylvania Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in care of the family, for a future gift to the residents and staff at Otterbein Green Hills Inn.
In closing, let us share with you a bible verse that Mom shared with her nephew: Joshua 1:9: Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.
