C. David Vogel
1939-2024

C. David Vogel, 85, beloved family man and attorney, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2024, at his home in Marion, Ohio. David was preceded in death by his parents, Ardell Charles (Buck) Vogel and Jesse Faye (Wessel) Vogel.

Born January 5, 1939, in O’Fallon, Illinois, David graduated from Southern Illinois University with an English degree in 1961. David taught high school English and coached baseball while studying law at Saint Louis University. Upon receiving his Juris Doctor degree in 1967, David began his law career in East Saint Louis, Illinois. In 1970, David moved his family to Pontiac, Illinois where he practiced law and served as the elected State’s Attorney in
Livingston County from 1976 to 1982. In 1982, David and his family relocated to Bellefontaine, Ohio. David moved to LaFeria, Texas in 1995 where he practiced law until 2021 when he moved back to Ohio to “retire”.

David loved practicing law and saw the beauty of our country’s rich history embedded in it; and his vanity license plate, CDV LAW, embodied his devotion. David was an avid collector and a master at trivia games. He loved sports, especially his holy trinity, the Green Bay Packers, the Boston Red Sox, and the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was known as the Memorabilia Man for good reason. Seldom was he seen, barring weddings and funerals, without a sports jersey that came with an associated story. His ability to recall names, dates, and occurrences was truly uncanny. Storytelling was an art for David and kept people tuned in, particularly on his many fishing excursions to Baraboo, Wisconsin. David maintained a close relationship with his children and stepchildren and proudly attended events to cheer on
his grandchildren. David lived a robust life full of laughter, thought, and emotion.

David is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kay (Rehrer) Vogel; his former wife and lifelong friend, Karen (Jackson) Medaris; his children, Jeffrey (Teresa) Vogel, Jason (Ann) Vogel, Erika (Colby) Furlong; his stepchildren, Natalie (Mike) Justice, Monty Cummins (Michelle McIntire), Brian Cummins (Trayce Winegarner); his grandchildren, Jessica Goggin, Justin Vogel, Adam Vogel (Stephanie Caracciolo), Matthew Vogel, Meghan (Chris) Vogel￾McCormick, Ella Furlong, Hudson Furlong; his step-grandchildren, Danielle Harrigan, Adam Harrigan, Nikita (Evan) Redding, Kylie (Johnny) Schorr, Kara (Andrew) Sutherland, Brison Cummins, Devin (Shelby) Cummins, Jocelyn Cummins; his great-grandchildren, Ensley Goggin, Emma Goggin, Logan Vogel; and his step-great-grandchildren, Brayden Redding, Owen Redding, Audrena Redding, Amara Harrigan, Brooks Johnson, Brielle Frelot.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024, from 4 pm to 7 pm at The Syndicate, 213 S. Main St., Bellefontaine, Ohio.
