1932-2026
Jo Ann Hines, 93, formerly of East Liberty, Ohio, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at Bluebird Retirement Community, surrounded by the dear friends who meant so much to her.
Born on November 5, 1932, in Ashley, Ohio, Jo Ann was one of four children of the late Homer and Frances (Nickle) Hines. A proud graduate of Monroe High School’s Class of 1951, she carried her small-town roots and strong values with her throughout her life.
Jo Ann was the definition of dedication. She spent 42 years as a shipping clerk at Harding Machine Manufacturing in East Liberty, rarely missing a day and always doing her work with care and pride. She retired in 1995, leaving behind not just a job well done but a legacy of reliability and grit.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Jo Ann was a longtime, active member of Middleburg Community Church, where she found both spiritual strength and lasting friendships.
She also knew how to have a good time. Jo Ann cheered faithfully for her Ohio State Buckeyes and kept a close eye on both the Cleveland Indians and Cincinnati Reds. When she wasn’t following a game, you might find her out on the golf course, planning her next trip, or doting on her beloved dogs, Annie and Benson—who undoubtedly lived very good lives. For many years, she also shared her kindness as a devoted caregiver to Doris O’Neil.
Jo Ann had a spirited personality and a playful streak that made her memorable to all who knew her. Whether through a quick-witted remark, a bit of mischief, or simply her joyful presence, she had a way of making life a little brighter.
She will be deeply missed by her brother, Dallas “Wes” (Judy) Hines of Mt. Vernon, Ohio; many special nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends, including Joyce Haddix of Middleburg, Rick and Jeanne Bahan of West Liberty, and Beth Marshall of Marysville.
Including her parents, Jo Ann was preceded in death by her two sisters: Marilyn “Susie” Gantz, and Mildred “Mickey” Eads.
Friends may visit from 10 – 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the Middleburg Community Church, 11824 State Route 287, East Liberty. Services celebrating her life will follow there at 11 a.m., with her dear friend, Don Jaunzemis officiating. For those unable to attend her services, you may watch the livestream of it via the Underwood Funeral Home Facebook page via this link (https://www.facebook.com/underwoodfuneralhome/), which will start approximately 10 minutes prior to her services at the church. Burial will follow in Middleburg Cemetery.
