John W. Seymour
1953-2026

John W. Seymour, 72, of West Mansfield, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Hospice of Central Ohio following a brief illness. Born on September 21, 1953, in Columbus, John lived a life dedicated to his family and community, leaving a legacy of love and commitment that will be long remembered.

A graduate of Westland High School and The Ohio State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, John cultivated a successful career as a computer analyst. In addition to his professional endeavors, he nurtured a passion as a "hobby farmer," embodying a spirit of hard work and dedication that inspired those around him. Earlier in his professional journey, he engaged as a chemist, showcasing his versatility and commitment to lifelong learning.

Family was the cornerstone of John’s life. He is survived by his beloved wife, June (Cardinal) Seymour, whom he married on June 11, 1983, in Marysville. His children, Jennifer (Tony) Morabito, Lauren (Joe) Wisner, Neal Seymour, and Cathryn (Kris Dozier) Seymour, as well as his grandchildren, Alexis, Michael, Madeline, Gerald, James, Robert, and John, were of utmost importance to him. John reveled in the moments spent with them.

John was known not only for his dedication to family but also for his contributions to the community. He proudly served as a longtime 4H advisor and found joy in bringing smiles to children by donning the red suit of Santa Claus during the holiday season. His role as a poultry judge highlighted his love for agriculture and youth education. John was formerly an active member of the Oak Grove Mennonite Church.

In his leisure time, John found pleasure in playing cards, listening to music, and indulging as an experienced foodie. He was an avid football fan, steadfast in his support of the Green Bay Packers and the Ohio State Buckeyes, often sharing his enthusiasm and love for the games with his family.

John is also survived by his mother, Darlene (Brown) Strawser; siblings Neal (Tammy) Seymour, Becky (Mark) Shaw, and Dwight (Jodi) Seymour; as well as his mother-in-law, Mary Jane Cardinal, brothers-in-law Ray Cardinal, Mark Cardinal, and Gene (Monica) Cardinal, and sister-in-law Mary (Matt) Smithey, alongside numerous nieces and nephews who cherished him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Seymour; father-in-law, Gene Cardinal; stepfather, Ed Strawser; and nephew, Colin Marshall.

A Gathering of family and friends to honor John's life will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel, 621 W. 5th St., Marysville. Burial will take place at a later date in the Millcreek Cemetery.
