June E. (Tuttle) Wickerham, 93, of Huntsville, OH, passed away Friday evening, September 25, 2027, with her family by her side.
June was born in Hardin County on June 22, 1933, a daughter of the late Theodore and Mildred (Linn) Tuttle. When June was in the sixth grade, her family moved to Logan County, and she continued her education at Huntsville School. There she met a neighbor boy, Wayne Wickerham, who was to become the love of her life. They married on February 29, 1952. They raised three daughters, Cindy, Nancy, and LeaDel, on the farm they moved to upon their marriage.
When the two older girls were both in school, June embarked on fulfilling her dream of a college education. She and her good friend, Marion Hemphill, enrolled together at Ohio Northern University with the goal of becoming High School English teachers. After her sophomore year, during a severe teacher shortage, Indian Lake Schools asked her if she would teach a Kindergarten class at Lakeview half-day and go to school part-time. “Mrs. Wickerham” took the job and turned it into a career of 32 years of teaching, followed by 14 years of substitute teaching. (Perhaps you are reading this now because Mrs. Wickerham taught you to read, as she did for countless students.) Wayne and Cindy conspired to open a farm market, so in addition to being an educator, June was a bookkeeper, salesperson, lunch lady, and chief green bean picker for several years.
June was a member of Huntsville Presbyterian Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, Board Bunch Farm Bureau Council, Huntsville Lions Club, Huntsville Alumni Organization, DeGraff Garden Club, and the Wapakoneta Library Book Club. June gave her time to many children over the years as a 4-H leader, tutor, and simply by “being there” for them. She was a Sunday School teacher, and a mentor to generations of kids.
June loved to read and cook, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family. Family dinners were her forte; pass the green beans and save room for an amazing slice of pie.
June is survived by her husband of 74 years, Wayne, her daughters, Cindy (Tom) Brown and LeaDel (Russel) Hurley, both of Huntsville, Nancy (Mike) Stewart of Seattle, WA, seven grandchildren, Philip (Lisa) Brown of Cleveland, OH, Matt (Billi) Hurley of Huntsville, Tyler (Kristi) Stewart of Seattle, Dan (Kristin) Hurley of Huntsville, Bill Brown of Ft. Wright, KY, Theodore Brown of Itoigawa, Japan, and Elliot Stewart of Seattle, seven great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Tori, KayLee, Olivia, Tanner, Vance, and Ruby June, brother, John (Dot) Tuttle, sister, Judy Morehead, and several nieces and nephews.
June is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jack Tuttle, sister-in-law, Lois Tuttle, brother-in-law, Jerry Morehead, and great-granddaughters, Lauren and Katelynn Hurley.
Memorial contributions may be given in June’s memory to Indian Lake Community Church or Huntsville Presbyterian Church.
Pastor Jim Ellington will begin a celebration of June’s life at 4:00 pm, Sunday, October 4, 2026, with a gathering of family and friends from 2-4 pm at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St, Lakeview.
