Marilyn Sue Campbell, 89, of Huntsville, OH, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 3, 2026, at Mary Rutan Hospital ICU, Bellefontaine.
Marilyn was born on May 22, 1936, in Bellefontaine, a daughter of the late Abrahm and Havel (Strayer) Franks. On June 15, 1958, Sue married Dick Campbell at First Methodist Church in Bellefontaine, and he preceded her in death on July 1, 2021. She is also preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Janice Campbell, and aunts and uncles.
Sue is survived by a son, Bill (Pam) Campbell of Sandusky, OH, three grandsons, Johnathan Campbell of Sandusky, Christopher (Heather) Campbell of Sandusky, and Matthew (Grace) Campbell of Elyria, OH, seven great grandchildren, Laura, Elizabeth, Christopher, Jr., Kasey, Ezekiel, Felix, and Rowan, a brother-in-law, Robert Campbell of Genoa, IL, and her faithful companion of the last 4 year, her Goldendoodle, Kali.
Sue was a 1954 graduate of Bellefontaine High School. She attended Denison College and earned her B.S. in Education from Ohio Northern University in 1958. In 1980, Sue earned her Master's Degree in Education at Wright State University and continued to learn computer programming at Wright State. She started her teaching career in business education at Roundhead Local School and then at Indian Lake High School until her retirement in 1994. She also taught night classes at Hi-Point Career Center through Urbana University. As an educator, Sue loved working with students, mentoring them, and building them up to prepare them for life after school. This includes being a basketball and volleyball coach, as well as a referee. She served as Yearbook Advisor for many years. Sue was also a committed volunteer to several organizations in her community and member of Indian Lake Community Church. She was an active member of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, Phi Delta Kappa Professional Education Association, Eastern Star, King’s Daughters, long time treasurer for Indian Lake Education Association, secretary of Central Ohio Teacher’s Association, treasurer and fiscal officer of Indian Lake Community Church, ILCC Chapter Christian Women’s Fellowship, ILCC Ladies Aide, ILCC Bell Choir, and West Central Ohio Community Concert Band.
Pastors Jim Ellington and Karen Blackburn will begin memorial services at 1:00 pm, Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Indian Lake Community Church, 121 N Orchard Island Rd, Russells Point, with visitation two hours prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given in Sue’s memory to ILCC Music Fund.
