1948-2026
Melinda S. Smith, of Raymond, lovingly known as Mendy, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Marion General Hospital following several months of failing health. She was born on January 30, 1948, and throughout her seventy-eight years, she touched countless lives with her devotion, generosity, and warmth.
Mendy’s life was defined by love and steadfast commitment to family. She was the heart of her home, a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a grandmother. Her pride in her children and grandchildren was apparent to all who knew her. She was primarily a loving homemaker, tending to the needs of her husband, children, and grandchildren with care and steadfast resolve. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she served as a foster parent for many years, welcoming those who needed comfort and stability.
In addition to her caring work at home, she contributed to her community through her employment at Friendship Village of Dublin, TSC, and Honda, where her presence was marked by kindness and integrity.
Family gatherings were Mendy’s happiest times, and she treasured every moment spent with her loved ones. She found deep joy in helping her children and grandchildren with their 4H projects, a testament to her unwavering encouragement and pride in their endeavors. She enjoyed horseback riding, especially trail riding, and was known for her skill and delight with sewing—turning simple fabric into tokens of love.
Mendy will be missed deeply by those she leaves behind: her son, Yancy (Tina) Smith of Richwood; her daughter, LeeAnn (Brian) Raines of York Center; her granddaughters, Ashley (Dylan) Barger and Breanna Raines; her grandsons, Jared Smith and Gage Raines; her great-granddaughter, Harper Malone; and her brother, Roger (Kay) Ogden of Kenton.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Danny L. Smith; her parents, James and Gean (Brown) Ogden; a grandson, Jaycob Fox; and a sister, Patty Webster.
