Michael Hooker
1958-2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Hooker, age 67, of Indian Lake, Ohio. Michael passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 17th, 2026.

Born in Berea, Ohio, to Herbert and Jean Hooker on August 29, 1958. Michael spent his time riding dirt bikes, doing art projects, and wrestling.

During his early twenties, he crossed the United States several times, hitchhiking from town to town, living what he would call a truly free life. He would often reminisce about these times as some of his happiest. After meeting Diana Cox in Colorado, they had their first son, William. Spending time between summers in Colorado and winters in Florida, 4 years later they had a second son, Clayton. The family moved to the Indian Lake region in 1989, where they set down permanent roots. Michael spent his years raising his two children, working in the HVAC field, managing his own restaurant, and establishing his place as an accomplished wood carver.

Michael loved art of all kinds, but his true passion was always wood carving. From whittling small keychains during his travels to making fine art pieces and landscape reliefs with hand tools, or the many full-size chainsaw carvings around the region. His ability to take a piece of wood and turn it into something that could stir the soul or bring a smile to your face was one of the many reasons he was known and loved around the Indian Lake region.

Michael was preceded in death by his partner, Diana Cox. He is survived by his two children, William and Clayton, his 5 siblings, Terry, Becky, Tracy, Herbie, and Brenda, along with many nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will cherish his memory.

A memorial in honor of Michael and Diana’s life will take place on August 29 at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S Main St, Lakeview, OH, between 1- 4 p.m. Following the memorial, a celebration of life will take place at the Eagles Annex, 11443 Shawnee Path, Lakeview, starting at 5 pm. All are welcome to come and share memories.

Michael lived his life on his terms with compassion and grace, and though he is no longer with us, the love, laughter, and memories we shared will remain forever. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Arrangements are in the care of Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview, OH. Condolences may be expressed at shoffstallfuneralhome.com.
