Norma Jean Greene
1932-2026

Norma Jean Greene, 93, of DeGraff, passed away at 2:16 a.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Logan Acres Care Center in Bellefontaine, Ohio. She was born in Cubage, Kentucky, on December 8, 1932, a daughter of the late Grover Naman Pittman and Roberta (Cowan) Pittman.

On August 16, 1952, Norma married John Bratcher Greene in Jonesville, Virginia, and he preceded her in death in 1979. She was also preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Steve (Sally) Greene; a sister, Wanda Mills; and two brothers, Oliver Pittman, Wendall Pittman, sisters-in-law, Loreen Pittman and Mary Pittman, brother-in-law, Ken Mills, and her very dear friend, Faye Sadler.

Norma is survived by four children, Mike (Cathy) Greene of Marysville, Lavena (Randy) Hubble of DeGraff, Terry (Clara) Greene of DeGraff, and Scott (Nancy) Greene of DeGraff; twelve grandchildren, Casey (Lance) Vesely, Jamie (Bobbie) Van Sickle, Angie (Brett) Wanner, Katie Long, Kurt (Jessica) Roush, Ashley (Brian) Santiago, Daniel (Mary) Greene, Justin (Gabrielle) Greene, Hannah (Drew) Rimslpach, Sara (Jake) Heaberlin, Joe (Kristin) Greene, and Luke (Allison) Greene; 30 great grandchildren; siblings, Idella Mills, Earl (Betty) Pittman, Cleston (Imogene) Pittman, Louise (Larry) Hoskins, and Junior (Sue Ellen) Pittman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Some people leave a legacy with the life they live; that was Norma. Her deepest love and joy was her family! They were the center of her being.

Norma so enjoyed cooking great meals for her family and friends. With those meals, there would always be an iron skillet with the freshly made cornbread and green beans that she raised and canned from her garden. There would always be dessert, usually a homemade cake or a pie and sometimes both!!  She would always have homemade cookies on hand ready to be shared.

God blessed Norma with many skills. A friend once stated that God has blessed Norma with a skill that would carry her through the years; that skill was sewing. She loved to quilt and made sure that all of her children and grandchildren, along with other family and friends, had one of her quilts that she so lovingly made. Her last two years were spent living at Logan Acres Care Center. The one thing that she insisted to be in her room was her sewing machine. While at Logan Acres, she made 30 plus quilts to gift to the many friends that she made there.

There were many things that kept Norma young throughout her years, and one of those things for certain was her staying busy, which made her strong. There were always many things to do being a farm wife and mother throughout the years. Along with her sewing, she was an avid reader, always planting a vegetable garden, canning the produce from her garden, mowing, and tending to her yard, which she did up to the age of 91 years young. She also worked at Precision Custom Products in the late 70s to mid-80s alongside her dear friend Faye.

She loved to travel and had gone on many adventures with her family and friends. She especially loved going back home to Kentucky in the area where she was born and raised, to see her sisters, brothers, her many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Norma never knew a stranger that she met along the way, she was loved by all. She certainly reaped what she sewed her whole life:  her faith in God, kindness, generosity, and above all LOVE!
