Randy Bruce VanHorn, age 78, of DeGraff, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on March 5, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Randy was born on November 17, 1947, in Lima, Ohio, to Jesse Frank VanHorn and Celia Georgeann (Conrad) VanHorn. He graduated from Lima Senior High School.
Randy was the oldest of three siblings. He was preceded in death by his brother, Alan VanHorn. He is survived by his sister, Vicki Vaden, the youngest of the three siblings, and his sister-in-law, Marsha Aksentowitz.
Randy married Darlene Sue (Rizor) VanHorn on June 2, 1968. She preceded him in death on January 5, 2004. He later married Cynthia Ingle on January 15, 2006, and she survives.
Randy is survived by his children: Jerry VanHorn (Monica), David VanHorn (Stacey), Michelle Elliott (Gary), and Patty Myers (Jason). He is also survived by his stepchildren, Michelle Ingle-Nafziger (Chad) and Grant Ingle.
Randy was a proud grandfather to Jenelle VanHorn, Jacob VanHorn, Cody VanHorn (Danielle), Brandon VanHorn (Kaylin), Audriona VanHorn, Makayla VanHorn, Jessica VanHorn, Jenna Elliott, Kierstin Liles, Kyler Liles, and Kambria Myers. He was also blessed with step-grandchildren, Cadence Edington, Logan Ingle, Christian Ingle, Kaytie (Matt) Greene, and Kody (Ivy) McGue, as well as 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Randy began his career as a tool and die maker and later taught industrial arts at Lima Senior High School before moving into sales, where he sold cars and semi-trucks. He later owned and operated Creative Home Furnishings in Lakeview, Ohio, where he continued serving customers and the local community. After retirement, Randy enjoyed doing design work and making signs, combining his creativity with his craftsmanship.
He was an avid woodworker and sign maker who loved working with his hands. Randy also enjoyed watching NASCAR races, riding motorcycles, shooting guns, bowling, boating, fishing, and spending time camping with his family, as well as watching classic television shows on MeTV. Those who knew Randy remember that he was always upbeat and nearly always had a smile on his face, bringing warmth and positivity to everyone around him.
Randy was a member of the Church of the Nazarene at Indian Lake, Ohio. Randy will be remembered for his kind spirit, love for family, craftsmanship, and the smile he shared with everyone he met.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 12, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St., Lakeview, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 13th, at the funeral home with Pastor Paul Flores officiating. Burial will follow at Huntsville Cemetery in Huntsville, Ohio.
