Roberta Vivian Sower passed away on Sunday, September 27th, 2026, at Otterbein Green Hills Life Community at the age of 91. Born on May 27th, 1935, in Cleveland, Ohio, Roberta was the daughter of the late RV and Frances (Spehar) Corrigan.
She grew up with her four siblings in a home filled with family, music, dancing, and love. Roberta met her husband, Maynard Sower, while working as a waitress at The Dinner Bell Restaurant in Painesville, Ohio. Together, they raised their family and, after several moves, settled in West Liberty in 1970. After raising her family, Roberta worked at Marie’s Candies and Hillside Greenhouse, where she loved to interact with customers and share her love of flowers and plants. She continued to work at the greenhouse well into her 80s. Roberta had an infectious smile and did not know a stranger. She had her own special way of making everyone feel valued and loved. She cherished her friends, neighbors, and church family at McKee’s Creek Chapel. As a resident of Green Hills, Roberta always made sure to have peppermints in her room for the housekeeping staff, aides, and nurses. She also had a strict “no resident left behind” policy and would sit and visit with fellow residents after activities until they returned to their rooms. Most of all, Roberta loved being a mother and grandmother. Her adventures with grandchildren are memories they will treasure forever.
Roberta is preceded in death by her parents, RV and Frances Corrigan; beloved husband, Maynard Sower; son Clifton “Butch” Sower; son-in-law, Daniel Blue; sister Constance “Connie” Rimarski Cannon; brother Michael Corrigan; nephew Michael “Tyke” Corrigan, niece Tami Vouk, and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
Roberta is survived by her sister Barbara Ann O’Leary, brother Joe (Carole) Corrigan, daughter Bernadette Blue, daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Jason Vogel, granddaughter Alexis Blue and her husband, Nick Fragiskatos, grandson Matthew Vogel, granddaughter Meghan Vogel and her husband, Christian McCormick, grandson Adam Vogel and his partner, Stephanie Caracciolo, great-granddaughter, Zoey Blue Fragiskatos, great-grandson Vogel-McCormick arriving in October, and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Roberta’s life will take place Friday, October 9th at Jennings Farley and Seeley Funeral Home in West Liberty. Visitation with family and friends will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with a funeral service following at 12:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Roberta’s name to McKee’s Creek Chapel or a charity of your choice. “But what is grief, if not love persevering?”
