Sidney “Sid” Wood, 88, of Bellefontaine, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at his home. He was born in Frank, Pennsylvania to the late Sidney and Sara (Rupert) Wood.
Sid is preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Wood, to whom he was for married 63 years before her passing on March 25, 2021.
He is survived by three daughters: Mary (Tom) Gillespie of Dublin, Sally (Randy) Schoeck of Bellefontaine, and Wendy (Bob) Spillner of Kendallville, Indiana; seven grandchildren: Daniel (Shea) Christian, Sallie (Matt Stahl) Christian, Scott (Jenna) Schoeck, Mark (Lauren Young) Schoeck, Sidney Weade, Jared Woehnker, and Cole Hart; six great-grandchildren; and siblings: John Wood, Darla (Richard) Schwirian, and Aldin (Florence) Wood.
Sid worked as a retail store manager most of his life, including 40+ memorable years at the G.C Murphy Company. Growing up outside of Pittsburgh, he was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pittsburgh Pirates fan. In his leisure time he enjoyed gardening and golfing. While he will be deeply missed, his family takes great comfort in knowing that he has finally been reunited with his beloved wife, whom he missed dearly and spoke to often since her passing five years ago.
The family will be having a private celebration of his life.
