1954-2026
Stephen W. Morris, 71, of Lakeview, OH, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 25, 2026, at Lima Memorial Health Systems.
Stephen was born on December 21, 1954, in Springfield, OH, a son of the late Thomas U. Morris Jr. and Patty Ruth (Adkins) Hiatt. Steve married the former Suzanne Liston on June 29, 1985, at Galilee Lutheran Church in Russells Point, OH, and she preceded him in death on December 13, 2025. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Molly Marie Purkey.
Steve is survived by three stepchildren, Jack Lee Ray of Warwick, MD, Tami Lynn (John) Stanford of East Liberty, OH, and Scott (Debbie) Ray of Lewistown, OH, six grandchildren, Otis (Becca) Ray, Charles (Lexi) Ray, Taylor (Kelsey) Stanford, Cody (Mary) Ray, Lindsey (Jordan) Penhorwood, and Katie (Griffin) Clark, ten great grandchildren, Benaiah, Emmalynn, Annalee, Carter, Charlie, Ellis, Aidan, Cael, Lexi, and Samuel, two sisters, Karen (Don) Luttrell, and Sharon Hill, a brother, Thomas A. H. “Tommy” Morris, sister-in-law, Barb Liston, brother-in-law, David Herndon, and several nieces and nephews.
Steve was a 1973 graduate of Indian Lake High School. He retired from the Madison County Emergency Medical District in 2013 after 27.5 years of service out of Medic 280. Steve also serves as a volunteer firefighter with the Lakeview Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed cooking and for many years could be found in the kitchen at Amvets Post #39 in Lakeview or The Landing in Russells Point. Steve was an avid OSU Buckeyes fan. He enjoyed doing yardwork and maintaining his property, fishing, and, in his earlier years, playing basketball. Steve would almost always win at “PIG” against his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, who would challenge him during family gatherings. Steve was a dedicated servant of his community, and he will be truly missed.
Chaplain Cynthia Defibaugh will begin funeral services at 11:00 am, Friday, May 1, 2026, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St, Lakeview. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 30th, from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm, with a Fireman’s Service at 7:00 pm. Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery.
