William L. Helmlinger
1936-2026

William L. Helmlinger, 90, of Sidney and formerly of Jackson Center, passed away Friday evening, June 12, 2026, at Ohio Living Dorothy Love.

Bill was born in Shelby County, Ohio, on April 30, 1936, to the late Harley R. and Agnes (Fogt) Helmlinger.  He married Dolores V. Maurer on March 26, 1966, in Harrod, Ohio, and she preceded him in death on May 24, 2015.  Bill was also preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Dale L. and Naomi Helmlinger, son-in-law Dan Broaddrick, and brothers-in-law Harry Krugh and Roger Metz.

Bill is survived by his children: Robbin Broaddrick of Sidney, Jon (Linda) Ciminillo of Troy, and Timri (Mark) Berning of Anna; 6 grandchildren: Joshua (Angela) Riegel, Che Riegel, Ty and Ashley Broaddrick, Dennis (Kristi) Berning, and Casie (Scot) Kitzmiller; 12 great-grandchildren: Roman, Elliott, Emma, and Che Riegel, Briley Moses, Naomi Biller, Natalie (Adam) Green, Kennedy Brewer, Mason and Cadence Berning, Miles and Remi Kitzmiller; 2 sisters: Barbara Krugh of Maplewood, and Carolyn Metz of Sidney; and many nieces and nephews.

A 1954 graduate of Jackson Center High School, Bill served in the U.S. Army from July 1959 to July 1962. He worked in the Engineering Lab at Copeland/Emerson in Sidney and retired after 45 years.  Bill was the driving force behind the approval by Underwriters Laboratories to apply UL labeling at the Copeland factory in Sidney.  He enjoyed fishing and was affectionately known as “the Candyman” at church for handing out candy to children. Around Indian Lake, he was known as “Bicycle Bill” and loved riding his bike around the lake. He was also a former deacon and lifelong member of St. Jacob Lutheran Church in Anna.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastors Bert and Shelly Schultz for their many visits over the years.

Pastor Bert Schultz will officiate Bill’s memorial service on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 11 am at Grace Lutheran Church, Jackson Center, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  A private burial will take place at a later date in Pearl Cemetery.
