Several inmates from the Clark County Jail were temporarily transferred to the Logan County Jail Friday evening after a structural inspection revealed a significant crack in an exterior support column.

According to a media release from Clark County Sheriff Christopher D. Clark, the damage was discovered during an inspection of the jail at 120 North Fountain Avenue.

A structural engineer determined the column needed to be braced and supported until permanent repairs could be completed.

Out of an abundance of caution, inmates housed in areas directly affected by the damaged support column were removed and transported to the Logan County Jail.

Sheriff Clark says the transfer is expected to be temporary and relatively short-term.

The displaced inmates will return to the Clark County facility once the support column has been properly reinforced.

The Logan County Jail currently has 108 inmates on its roster and can accommodate approximately 135.
