The Indian Lake Chamber of Commerce issued a statement Wednesday from Interim Director Michelle Grandi, addressing Chamber members and the Indian Lake community as the organization begins what she described as a new chapter.
Grandi said her priorities include transparency, accountability, and accessibility, adding that members and community residents will have access to her and the Chamber’s Board.
She encouraged anyone with questions or concerns to reach out, saying that if she does not know the answer, she will find it and share what she learns.
Grandi said the Chamber’s goal is to support and promote local businesses and provide resources through the Indian Lake Chamber and Visitors Bureau to promote businesses and the Indian Lake region.
The statement also acknowledges concerns surrounding the Chamber.
Grandi said the organization has learned from areas where its oversight fell short and is committed to making positive changes moving forward.
She said the Chamber’s responsibility is to operate with the accountability, transparency, and oversight that members and the community deserve.
Grandi also highlighted the Chamber Board, which is made up entirely of volunteers who receive no compensation or benefits for their service.
She said Board members give countless hours to promoting Indian Lake, supporting local businesses, and working on community events.
However, who serves as members of the board was not listed.
The statement also addressed financial oversight.
Grandi said the Chamber has multiple layers of oversight, including internal accounting, an outsourced accounting firm, and state-level oversight regarding the use of state-generated tax funding.
Grandi acknowledged that mistakes have been made, saying the Chamber is committed to learning from them, improving its processes and doing better.
She asked members and the community for patience as she and the Board work through the transition and seek to rebuild trust.
Grandi said there is “a lot of good ahead for Indian Lake” and emphasized that the Chamber is committed to serving local businesses and the community.
She closed the statement by saying her door is always open and encouraging members and residents to reach out.
