Ohio State Representative Tim Barhorst met with members of the Logan County Republican Party Monday afternoon during a luncheon at the American Legion Post 173 in Bellefontaine.
Barhorst, who represents parts of Logan County and all of Champaign and Shelby counties, provided an update on several issues currently being discussed at the Ohio Statehouse.
One of the topics was the state’s Capital Budget.
Barhorst said the 2026 budget will be split evenly between urban and rural communities across Ohio.
He noted that the budget is expected to receive final approval in the Ohio House later this week.
He also addressed the growing interest in data center development across the state.
While Barhorst said he understands the economic benefits data centers can bring, he emphasized the importance of protecting farmland and natural resources.
He said he would prefer to see future data center projects located on previously developed or industrial properties rather than productive farmland.
Property taxes were another major topic of discussion.
Barhorst said he was pleased to report that a grassroots effort to completely eliminate property taxes has been dropped for 2026.
He added that he is currently serving on a committee focused on addressing concerns surrounding Ohio’s 20-mill floor, which he believes could play a key role in future property tax reform.
Barhorst also stressed the importance of working closely with leaders and residents across Logan, Champaign, and Shelby counties to ensure their voices are heard in Columbus.
After his remarks, Barhorst opened the floor for a brief question-and-answer session with those in attendance.
