Residents passing through downtown Bellefontaine on Thursday may have noticed some extra activity around one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.
Joseph Jackson, known as a jack of all trades for the City of Bellefontaine, spent much of the day working under sunny skies to spruce up the fountain on Main Street in front of the Logan County Courthouse.
Jackson said maintaining the popular fountain typically costs a couple hundred dollars each year, but 2026 is bringing a few additional upgrades.
Crews began replacing plumbing at the base of the fountain Thursday morning, while Jackson dedicated several hours to touching up its paint.
The improvements aren’t stopping there. New lighting is expected to be installed Friday, weather permitting, and the area surrounding the fountain will also see an upgrade, with stone set to replace the existing mulch at the base.
For Jackson, the timing of the project is no coincidence.
“I try to get the fountain up and going before prom, as it’s a great photo op for many,” he said. “I’ll do my best to get it up and ready by Saturday.”
With the first prom set for Saturday, the refreshed fountain is expected to once again serve as a picture-perfect backdrop for Logan County students celebrating.
