Benjamin Logan Board Appoints New Member; Indoor Track Pilot Program Kicks-off

At Benjamin Logan’s Board of Education organizational meeting Monday night the board appointed Deron King as a new Board of Education member.

King’s term is set to expire on December 31, 2025.

During the election of officers, Mark Himmeger was appointed as Board President, and Deb Johnson was appointed Vice President.

Committees Representatives for the 2024 calendar year are:

  • Building, Grounds & Equipment – Spriggs/Dill
  • Curriculum/Technology & Student Achievement Liaison – Johnson/Dill
  • Extracurricular – Spriggs/Himmeger
  • Finance/Personnel – King/Himmeger
  • Legislative/Policy – Johnson/Dill
  • Public Relations – Johnson/Dill
  • Transportation – King/Spriggs

For School Board Recognition Month each of the principals provided special cards that staff members signed for the board members to thank them for their service.

At Monday’s regular Board of Education meeting an Indoor Track Pilot Club was approved for the 2023-2024 school year to allow students to participate in something that they love.

Superintendent Mr. Scheu said, “There is potential to make this a regular sponsored sport similar to other sports. Students may be eligible for the state indoor track meet due to their participation.”

Scheu shared that there are two transportation-related arbitration hearings scheduled in February.

On January 30, Sally Stolly and Scheu will be attending the United Way Awards Breakfast.

During the financial report, the BOE approved the December 2023 Finance Report including the Bank Reconciliation and Financial Reports for December 2023.

All bills for December 2023 and confirmed they are for a proper public purpose.

The resignation of Lisa Cox, MS Teacher- Effective May 31, 2024, for retirement, was accepted.

The board employed Gary Shields- Bus Driver- Step 0- Effective January 4, 2024, on a One-Year Limited Contract (Effective remainder of August 1, 2023, through July 31, 2024)

ESC Substitutes were employed at the rate of $115 per day effective December 18, 2023.

The board approved issuing a stipend of up to $125 for working the Math & Literacy Night; $50 per hour.

One hour of planning/prep time, and 1.5 hours of instruction for the individuals who have completed their requirements for the Math & Literacy Night on March 7, 2024.

The board approved overnight trips for students, parents, and chaperones for the BPA State Leadership Conference – Columbus, OH – March 7 & 8 and the BPA National Leadership Conference – Chicago, IL – May 10-14.

The BOE accepted the donation of a fire blanket for the HS cooking classes from HS Principal, Annettee Ramga-Alatorre.

Volunteer Services of Steve Henderson as Indoor Track Coach was also accepted.
