Benjamin Logan School Board meets

The Benjamin Logan Board of Education met in regular session and presented outgoing Superintendent John Scheu with a token of their appreciation for his years of service to the district. At the conclusion of the meeting, Board President Mark Himmeger presented Scheu with a wooden plaque that said, ‘Welcome to the Scheu’ in Ohio State colors.

Scheu, an avid Ohio State fan, said he isn’t sure where he will put the sign, but he will enjoy having it in his collection: 

The Board approved several action items from the agenda:

  • Revising the Central Office Salary Schedule to reflect the hiring of Scott Brewer as the district Transportation Director.
  • Approved a contract renewal with Smith-Boughan for HVAC service and repair.
  • Asked for public comments regarding the disbursement of Anticipated IDEA Grant funds.

In his report, Superintendent Scheu informed the board that he had been notified that the repairs for the recent wind damage had exceeded $1 million and would be fully covered by insurance, minus a $5,000 deductible.

He also said that he was notified by Logan County Auditor Jack Reser that the district will face a nearly $1 million reduction in property tax receipts in 2027.

District Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer Leah Baker told the board that the district finished the month of May in the black. She also said that $750,000 has been set aside for repairs to the district’s wastewater treatment facility, but the district has not yet received a bid to complete the entire project.

The district has been forced to find several different companies to complete the work. She recommended that the board transfer $50,000 to the Wastewater Fund to ensure sufficient funds to complete the work.
